PPBlimpy's S1000 downsize / upgrade

Mixing station is comprised of 2x 65g vats
One for salt, and one for Rodi of course.

Will be adding a RO line directly from RO side to ATO.

Unfortunately with my current schedule an it seems like I will never get to AWC.lol

I have new ideas on things I want to do to this tank.
On the cabinet next to the tank, still need to build said cabinet, that hides the 50g drum I plan to relocate my apex and both dos into it. And I want to find a 24x24x12 frame tank and set up a above DT mangrove forest/refugium.

There is the annual frag show local this weekend and I am deciding to pass this year. With this storm and all the outside animals o have to much to prep.

Leaving barely enough time to feed and ad water to ATO each day.

Yeah, good luck with that storm. I'll be thinking of you as I sit in my lanai by the pool.

I'd set the station up to mix whenever and then pump and heat the water right before doing a WC.

24x24x12 framed tank? I cannot say that I have ever seen one. I know there are rimless in that size. Maybe give a go at building your own acrylic tank.

rimmed or rimless, doesn't matter to me. Doesn't even have to be 24" F-B but my cabinet will be 26"x26"
If I do it I want to be able to put small fish and CUC that I can't have in my DT tank because of Blimpy. rock rubble, deep sand bed etc. and a bunch of mangroves.

when it comes to water changes that is what i will be doing. will make sure i have both vats full of RO and throw salt in and heat when needed the next day.

this storm is going to hurt. looking at 24-30 inches of snow in 48 hrs.

I can just imagine only being able to see from the shoulders up on my mini horses.

Spent time last night around the property.
My wife and daughters horses take a lot of MY time these days.
For the equestrians here.
My wife has a Ex-Amish Draft Mule- used and abused her whole life but the biggest cuddly love bug @1800 lbs
My daughter has a Belguim Draft- currently getting 3 treatments a day due to him scratching his eye ball while eating and developed a corneal ulcer because it healed to quickly over bacteria that wasn't expelled- he is 1700lbs of tired ticked off attitude because I have to squirt 3 different medicines into his eye 3 times a day and he is stuck wearing goggles best that I can describe 70s ski goggles.
Then there is my horse -Lambo Joe- a 250lb dapple grey mini shetland.

All three of these guys plus another mini were pulled from Kill pens and rescues. They are on our property to live out their days and enjoy life and lots of cuddles and keep our vet and ferrier in business

Anyways after that took up a bunch of time I had about an hour of day light left, got some time in on my Jeep that I am slowly destr.... building,

Onto tank stuff- after dinner I finished the hard plumbing on my saltwater mixing station. Using a mag12 pump I had sitting around, probably a bit overkill but will have to pump from mixing station to tank approx 60ft and 6ft of head. Been trying to get this mixing station together for weeks. Tired of mixing salt water and finally going to run the rodi. been using straight well water and think that is what may have cause the crash a couple months back. I think a neighbor did a chlorine treatment to their well and we are on the same water table.

Got some water in it and fire up the pump to find a bad o-ring and the face plate leaking. 1 step forward /2 back.

Ordering up a new face plate and o-ring today.

Still need to plumb the rodi into the Freshwater side via float valve, drill for a 1/4 bulkhead for ATO feed.

Onward
Good for you rescuing the horses and the mule. They are intelligent animals that can live a long life. And I understand about the the time their care involves. I love horses but have always felt that for animals that can weigh upwards of 2000 pounds, they can be surprisingly high maintenance. And they love to eat.

Read through your build. You are one DIYing, problem-solving, reefer man extraordinaire! Good luck! Your tank will be beautiful!

As a machinist for 20 years and the engineering background I greatly enjoying using what I have learned at home. for a long time I hade my own home shop with Haas CNC mill and lathe. Actually looking to do that again here soon.

I used to run, 20+ years ago, a website called reefersaquariums and made parts out of acrylic for the saltwater hobby. I built my first cnc out of mdf and plotter printer parts when I was 17. I am actually currently designing and building a drilling machine for the company I work for to drill a .093" hole x 36" deep. I am enjoying this project because I haven't played with automation like this in 15 years and the cost has significantly dropped. helps its not my money and i have a Full 5axis aerospace CNC shop at my disposal.

You go all talking about a full, 5-axis, aerospace CNC shop and then drop that picture. (Yes, I know that's the one you built years ago.)

We want to see some very cool, modern machinery! Or, well, at least I do!

That’s funny. Yea I will get some, I have left for the day, need to prep for the cold
We run all haas equipment. 3,4 and 5 axis.

Tick tock... tick tock... tick tock... still waiting on some cool machinery pictures.

Yoohooo... hello over here!

Less about protein skimmers and more about tank updates.

lol nice!

Well tank is doing the same as before. I feed them, clean the glass, blow off my rocks, clean skimmers etc.

Hopefully this weekend I am going to go help catch a 7" yellow spot rabbit fish from my buddies tank and give it a new home. Also looking at adding a file fish for aptasia control. Hoping Blimpy doesn't eat it!

The freezing cold kept me busy on the farm, I had to swap one of my 300w heaters to a 800W titanium on my Helio. Now my temps are rock steady +/- .2* according to Apex. It was fluctuating upward of 2* a day.

ORP has finally climbed back above 300 since the crash, not actually gauging off the # but been watching the trend raise over a couple months slowly.

The few corals that survived are doing well. all mushrooms seem to be flourishing except green mushrooms.
I have had a goni that was receded prior to the crash and survived start coming out and extending more in the past couple weeks.

50G Water chnge is ready for this weekend.

I still owe pictures of cool equipment here at work and will get some today.

Started a new project here building a dedicated drilling machine capable of drilling a .093 hole thru to a depth of 36". thats been a fun project

Haven’t gotten the rabbit fish yet but came across this guy at the local shop. $89 and decent size. Watched him eat frozen.

Need some luck, been wanting one for a long time. A lot cooler looking then a file fish

Hope it goes well for you!

So far the copperband is doing good. I had the LFS feed before I go him and he did eat frozen.

He didn't seem interested in eating the first two times. Last night he did go after a couple pieces on the third feeding. I need to up the quantity of frozen that I feed.
My large unicorn tang is a maniac when it comes to feeding time and scares others away. He even takes full pieces of raw shrimp from Blimpy and swims away with it. Blimpy chasing him around the tank. I figure its good exercise for Blimpy, helps keep his cute round figure. since most the time Blimpy just hangs out in his little garage / cave.

Now I would love to see a video of that, haha

That's nice, and all, but we like pictures and videos. Words are great but they get wordy and leave me to my imagination. This can be scary territory.

(Happy the YT ate during the third feeding.)

My wife just went and checked on the tank and sent me this video. Copperband getting along and starting to explore the tank.

Spent the first 2 days in the corner

Don’t mind the glass. Unicorn tang likes splashing water everywhere. I also only scrub the glass every 4 days or so. The tangs love eating it while I scrap it when it’s thick

Picked up some tester corals from a couple local club members.

Going to see how they do, working on rescaping and water change this weekend.

Birdnest, elkhorn, purple stylo, Frammer.
I don’t remember the rest.

Anyone familiar with Reeflo external needle wheel pumps?
Had this piece of ancient history donated yesterday to the DIy PVC skimmer build

Haven’t tried it yet. Will pull it apart, clean and order a rebuild kit. A bigger Venturi may have to be designed since the one I just made is sized more for the Jebao 12000lph needle wheel
