It is apparent you have no yet picked up on when I am giving you a hard time. I understood the point you were making but saw an opening to bust your stones. You seem to give a lot of those openings which leads me to believe you, 1.) Like getting your stones busted or, C.) You have a fundamental flaw occurring from thinking something and expressing that something or, 6.) I am a keen observer who recognizes narrow stone busting opportunities or, X.) A combination of some or all of 1., C., and 6.

Then, again, I have not yet taken my morning meds and this could all be happening only in my imagination.

I do not know if 12 plants would be excessive because I have never had mangroves but, like I said, I know some folks who do. One such jerk, er, um, I mean reefing friend, @Fish Styx has a mangrove tank that he plumbed into his display. Maybe he can be so kind as to depart some of his intellectual prowess on the matter.

Thoughts were a full pulsing Xenia refugium with mangroves growing out the back. Mangroves because I think they are neat, not sure how well they use the nutrients, I do have one seedling growing in my sump as it is.
Xenia because I have ran a Xenia refuge in the past and it worked well and I can’t keep chaeto alive in my tank.

Little tank will have substrate for the mangroves,
A small 50w heater, small power head with RFG nozzle. And either fed by my return and overflow back to the tank or use a Dos and transfer say 25g /day in&out programmed as daily WC

That size tank would comfortably fit four mangroves in a row. Anymore and they will crowd themselves. Substrate should be deep (>/= 8"). This will allow for more robust growth, nutrient uptake, and denitrification via a DSB.

Mangroves are not very good at nutrient export, but will serve better in this capacity via a more robust root network, and that requires substrate. The deep sandbed will also remove NO3 via anaerobic denitrification, so bonus.

If you are feeding this via your return pump and returning it to the sump, there will be no need for a heater in there, so cross the little 50w off your list. One less plug. Also, just put RFG spray nozzles on the feed lines and nix the powerhead, too. Two less plugs.

Now, the Xenia in there will be absolutely beautiful, but there is a good possibility that they will find their way into your DT, so invest in a long pair of forceps for plucking.

Hmmm not to worried about Xenia in the DT. Was going to run the return into overflow box and then will have to make it thru the sump etc.

Didn’t think the mangrove remove much, I just think they are neat and above the tank would be cool. One perk of tall ceiling.

Was not planning on that deep of a sand bed.
May have to jump to a 22g long 36x12x12 but that’s a lot more weight then I wanted to support.

I was thinking of 3d printing fake rocks and modifying the model to have pot area to plant the mangroves.

I Will say the Xenia is the main reason for the tank. The mangroves are a bonus

I believe the coal rolling closed loop has upset my tank a bit.

My phosphates are very high, been working on them. Saturday they tested at .93
Nitrates at 60

Sunday did the water change 50g
Got my closed loop working and blew crap everywhere that has been sitting rotting in the pipes.
New test corals are looking like crap, yea they probably don’t like the high phosphates to begin with but we’re looking good prior to water change.

Tested last night, nitrates are down at 51 but phosphates jumped to 1.21

Also orp had been steady around 300 and plummeted to 240- slowly climbing back up.
I watch orp for trends more then the actual #.
Tank will swing 20 orp daily.

Need to throw this on the printer. Should help with water movement and clean up the water surface in my sump. Going to move the skimmers into extension housing. Making room for ats

Got some more time in on the tank this weekend.

completely cleaned the sump, cleaned out the extension housing , was using as a defunct refugium / frag tank, and moved my skimmers into that section after a very thorough cleaning. This will give me more room for LC dosing.
3d printed a holder for a 7" socks instead of the 4 x 4". Not a change most people would probably do but I have 30+ new 7" socks from my old 300G setup. And I hate cleaning 4" socks.

I am tired of cleaning the 7" sock. its better then cleaning 4" socks but not by much. I have a bunch of 7"x16 socks sitting here new, my daughter is shortening them to 10" for me and will be able to swap them out and throw them in the washing machine.

Right now I am just pulling the single sock and had cleaning daily. Once the sock is replaced each day I move a power head to blow crap everywhere and get lingering detritus into the water column. This seems to be working pretty well in regards to water quality.
Watching the ORP as a trend and it is climbing a little each day. Currently sitting around 260. ORP fell to 140 after the closed loop incident.

water change tonight? maybe? hopefully.

buying all the livestock / rock from 2 tanks locally tomorrow. A 75G and a 90G
Will be acquiring a Tomini tang, flame angel, engineer goby, pair of Percula clowns and a couple damsels.
Percs and damsels will be going into the sump and will go to a buddy when his tank is cycled.

About 100 lbs rock and a bunch of random corals. Mostly lps and softies, need some color back in this tank.
Any rock with corals will go into the display, the rest into my sump and my buddies tank.

Skimmers are pulling a ton of crap but definitely less now that the filter sock is being used.
12 rolls Petg have been ordered so I can finalize my surface skimmer for my sump and start on my fleece roller.

Also now that weather has gotten nicer we have had sightings of our red ear sliders in our pond. We were worried they may have perished in the freeze. Pond ice was 5” thick

small Tomini tang,small flame angle, 8” engineer goby, pair of percula clowns, pistol shrimp, 4x Pom Pom crabs, nice torch with 7 heads, bunch of CUC, 3 or 4 different types of zoas, an unknown encrusting coral, about 100 lbs rock total. And did I mention a lot of mushrooms?
The goby is pretty cool.

Oh and Blimpy was ticked off for a bit.

cleaned filters this morning, replaced carbon, definitely need to move rock around now.
with a flashlight before lights came on I saw the tomini tang, flame angel, clowns and the goby. So that was nice. I hadn't seen the flame since dropping it in.

going to clean the glass tonight and maybe try to rearrange stuff and get some decent photos
