Prazipro & Seachem Metroplex/Focus

Okay, I am new to adding chemicals in QT.

I just dosed Prazipro to my 40g QT tank. Do I need to feed Metroplex and Focus after I am done with the 2 doses of Prazipro 5-7 days apart, or is Prazipro enough?

Also, the fish in my DT have never been in QT. I have had them for years. Do I use Prazipro and Metroplex and Focus on that tank too?

What about Cupramine? Do I want to use it in the QT and DT if there are no signs of ich?

My DT is fish only with rock and a DSB.

Prazi-Pro dosed into the water will be effective against flukes or other parasites on the fish's skin, but not against those deep inside their bodies. (It would also be dangerous for any feather-dusters or other valued worms in your DT.)

Metroplex & Focus is effective against internal parasites, but would have little or no effect against skin parasites.

Many people use Cupramine in their QT against ich / velvet, as those diseases can cause problems without visible symptoms. Cupramine isn't recommended for the display, as liverock will absorb it, making it difficult to maintain therapeutic levels of medication. That liverock should never, ever be used for corals or other invertebrates afterward.

Whether or not to use copper as a prophylactic is a bit more controversial. o_O

I guess I should just use the Cupramine in the QT whether or not I observe ich?

Also, I am not observing any stringy white poo in either the QT or DT for years. But I seem to remember my clown had that at one point years ago but never seen it since. Do I treat or not treat? (Reading your above link.)

That's what we call treating "prophylactically" to head off and clear your fish of any Ich/Velvet parasites. Sometimes a fish is a carrier of the parasites in their gills out of sight and without displaying the classic symptoms for the parasites. So many of us recommend the copper for all new incoming fish as Velvet is rampant in the industry these days. Lots of suppliers and LFS are treating their tanks with sub therapeutic levels of copper. So you take your fish home and in a few days or up to a month later the Ich or Velvet comes roaring back with little or no warning and often without displaying the usual symptoms.
Problem is your other old fish in your DT could be carriers too. Argh. . . .

;) Hi Big G! I hear ya! My newest fish in DT has been there about 2 years. Maybe I could remove them and treat in a stock tank. Will copper ruin a Rubbermaid stock tank or if you bleach it are you okay? What about glass and silicone?

Wash the tank and equipment with bleach to remove any bio-film. Rinse, rinse, dry. Then wash with vinegar to precipitate the copper residue into a harmless form. Rinse, rinse, dry. Good to go.

Problem is the parasite could be in your DT. And the only way to get rid of them is for the DT to go fallow (fishless) for 76 days. Yikes!

I treated my qt tank with prazipo today for a new group of fish that arrived yesterday. I just now sawwhite stringy poo. Can I also use metro with focus in food with the prazi

edit: this is a group of 2 carberryi anthias and 3 lyretails. The carberryi's are out and eating, the 3 lyretails still hiding but I've seen some feeding. Last batch of lyretails, I lost all three but never saw any reason. Decided to treat in case iwth the prazi. Hard to lose 50 % or better! I want all of these guys to survive. I have 3 more arriving next wed. to add.

Thanks once again @Humblefish . Started it. Lost one fish already. One day. I expect I'll lose another. The third Lyretail, while no totally out and about is at least a bit active at sand level and starting to come out a tad. The two cariberryi's seem fine so far. So discouraging.

Anthias, wrasses and dragonets are by far the most difficult fish to QT. I realize that doesn’t help with your current situation, but try to not let it get to ya.

that I am finding out. Out of one batch of wrasse 2 out of 4 made it the display. One disappeared on me, so I have one wrasse. Mandarins I won't qt anymore. Lost 2 within days in QT. Good thing I'm a stubborn gal.
