Honest queston. How do you put a price on your used tank with a bunch of equipment that is all just a year old or less? What factors do you consider? Because I am struggling on marketplace having several people asking what’s the least I would go? I upgraded my tank but most of the equipment is going with the waterbox marineX 60.2.

Someone says, what is the lowest you would go, I say, make an offer... It is a negotiation. Set your bottom price in your mind (don't share it) and stick to it. You will weed out low ballers and generate serious offers.
Love that because at this point I just delete.

I'm sorry to say, but I think you'll find this is going to be a difficult sale, from my experience.

What area of New York are you in? I'm near Canandaigua.

The general rule of thumb with selling equipment is to expect to take a loss on what you paid for it. Say you bought an apex for $450. You might get $300 for it, depending on how long you used it for. Electronics are often a harder sell than non-electronic products. This is due to electronics breaking down over time, new improvements being made at a rapid pace, and people being cautious about buying "used electrical equipment".

I tell people I am flexible but only take offers in person. Weeds out 95% of BS people

I start at 50% off new pricing, then another 50% off of that if it doesn’t sell. Right now is the off season so it may be tough unless it’s a good deal for the buyer. You’ll usually get a lot of tire kickers either way.

I have a fairly large ebay account for used reef equipment, and for the higher end stuff, I get 50-65% original price depending on the piece.. some are lower, some are higher. If they aren't name brand like ecotech, RO, neptune etc, expect 10-20% return on it. We give away most of the jebao equipment because it just takes up room

You get about 10-20% for the tank, stand, sump. Any other equipment is 50-60% of new. Sucks but that is the market these days. It is a buyer's market and they set the prices. Too many people selling so there is a flood of used equipment
Yea tanks are the hardest sell, imo. I gave away my 120 as I got tired of people asking what's the lowest I would go after posting it for $100. I kept the metal stand so selling a tank with no stand made it even harder to sell.
I gave it to a reefer I met at a lfs who I knew would put it to good use but could not afford a new system he was considering.
I have given away alot of equipment to reefers in need instead of trying to sell it.

Yeah. I didn’t think my price was bad for the waterbox 60.2, stand, sump, inkbird, Red Sea reefmat nano with new roll, aqua UV with new bulb, 4 heaters 2 of which were the helio IM heaters, deltec skimmer, tunze ato, Sicce return pump, reef octopus skimmer, Milwaukee ph monitor/probe, 40# of caribsea sand new. But people are offering $200-$400. At this point I may just keep it and make it a Fowler tank instead.

Selling tanks is a bloodbath. I've done it, and I priced it around 25%, and I took less.

Yea good idea.
You would make more selling the equipment separate, except for the hassle of doing it.
Tank stand and sump alone I would not go over the $400 mark to be honest and that would be a good deal, imo.

I was asking $600 for everything….
Ok that's a good deal, imo!

If you want $600 you need to ask for 1K. So the 2-$400 was a reasonable offer.
If you were local to me I would grab that for $600.
The tank stand and sump are worth the asking price, imo.

I dropped the price to $600 from 8/850.

Yea I would have left it and considered taking half if I really needed it gone. If you want it sold I would repost it for 1K and just wait for an offer over $500 since you have the space. For someone who actually knows what you have 5-$600 would be a good offer. For tanks you can never expect to get asking price, imo, unless the person is looking for that size of a system.
Again to get 5-$600 you need to post it for over 1K.
Patience is the key so either repost or just keep it.

I would have taken the $400 honestly.

Selling used equipment is brutal.

When I sold my last tank I explicitly stated all or nothing, but that doesn't stop anyone from asking if they can just buy the skimmer/etc.
