Problems with Bubble Magnus Curve 5

I have a brand new Bubble Magnus Curve 5 protein skimmer that I am trying to set up in my new tank. When I turn it on, it spews bubbles out of the bottom and the bubbles in the top just overflow into the cup. I have taken it apart and reassembled it three times now, so I think I put it together correctly. The water level in my sump is about halfway up the skimmer. I think this might be my problem, but im not sure. When I hold it up so that the water covers the bottom two inches of the skimmer, the bubbles up top work right, but the bottom still spews out bubbles. Can someone please give me any tips on how to fix this? Has anyone else had this problem?

Did you put the red plug back in the big hole in the bottom? That extra hole is fit if you want to change pump orientation. The ‘spare’ hole needs capped.

Processed water comes out of a small hole at the bottom of the white adjustment pipe.

I had the same issue with the C7 until I capped it.

yes, I did cap it. It looks like the bubbles are coming out around the white piece attached to the pump.

yep. thats exactly where it comes out. and the whole chamber with the pump fills with bubbles

That’s weird.?i can’t figure out how that would happen unless the black collar was misaligned

Yeah- that’s the only part with a seam that would let bubbles escape in the lower chamber.

Unless they are coming out the top, and there as so many of them that they are coming down past the hole plate, but that shouldn’t happen. That would need counter pressure from the top for them to do that

First off, Welcome!

I had/loved this same skimmer for several years. A pic would help, but it also may just be breaking in. I had an RO skimmer that did exactly what you're describing for a few weeks, and then one day, it stopped on its own.

I have one and at first I put the upper bubble plate w/holes directly over the output hole, turns out the holes need to be on the opposite side. Mine is in 8"s of water. Hope this helps

I have the same skimmer. They take some time to break in. But, you need to check the venturi as well to make sure it isn't blocked. Specifically, the piece connected to the pump where the small hose is attached. My skimmer had a piece of plastic blocking it that was not removed during manufacturing. The skimmer is great when it finally starts working.

If the skimmer is new (sounds like it), it can take a bit to "break in". I would just unplug the cup's plug for a bit until it settles down - which can take a month or two.

Does it matter if the adjustment thing is turned to the back or side of the pump? (the long white pipe with min and max on it)
