Any recommendations for a protein skimmer for a 15G nano AIO.

Preferably something low profile and can fit in the back chamber.

These are some I’ve come across that I have in mind: rinse comline 9001, innovative marine DC aio, bubble magus MiniQ Nano.

I was also considering the icecap k1 nano— but I don’t like how it exposes the top of the skimmer.

Thanks in advance.

Don’t bother with the tunze, the bubble magus mini is good and cheap, my advice is try that first as said its cheap but as good as any of the others.

I have been down this rabbit hole, now don’t use any skimmer, they skim hardly any skimmate that a small water change will be much more effective and give you more room for other equipment.
They also stop skimmimg for days and weeks, feeding the tank can do it, dosing, water changes, the tank being too clean, even if it did skim continuously the amount as said is minimal.

You will probably still want to give it a go, do yourself a favour and your wallet, buy the bubble magus mini q for a test run.

This is really great advice. Thank you. Yes— BRS sells their magus for under 60$. Compared to the others being over 100$.

I will be introducing a BTA— so I thought having a skimmer would help with the water quality in between changes.

I have actually been using this one and it's been working well. I have a 15 aio.

I’ve seen it on my amazon request list! I’ve just never heard of the brand. Does the top of it stick out of the AIO chamber?

Another vote for the bubble magus mini. It's compact but well made, it's skims decently. I too sometimes go without the skimmer but for a nano or AIO it's great.

With a nano water changes are going to be your main nutrient export method, for the first 1-2 years you want to be doing 30% or more a week, ignore the 10-20% a month recommendations you see.

I now use an internal filter, the amount of detritus it pulls out puts a nano skimmer to shame, see if the Eheim or Sicce internal filters will fit in your tank, they are fully submersible so nothing sticking out the top of the tank, rinse the sponge every 2-3 days and best of all they can also be used as a reactor for carbon or gfo.

Oh! Do you use the sicce shark? I came across that but wasn’t sure what it actually did.

Yeah. I also just want to get away with as little water changes as possible since I travel sporadically. Right now— I don’t mind the 20% water changes a week though. It’s quicker than doing them for a 100G+

I use the Eheim pickup, not sure which is smaller.

The Eheim is silent.
