I'm going to buy a running tank from someone this week it's a 30g. Right now he says he isn't using a protien skimmer and just putting in macro algae which seems to be doing just fine. I'm wondering if I should get one anyways and if so, any recommendations on something that won't break the bank. [emoji4]

If you want one that performs well and hangs on the back you'll need to spend a little. I like the aqua-c remora for that purpose.

Food for thought, I had a 16 gallon cube that never ran a skimmer. Just a big clump of chaeto lit during the night. Unreadable nitrates on a Red Sea kit. Rarely did water changes. Had 2 clowns and a fire fish.

On a tank that size I would rely more on water changes than buying a skimmer to be honest.

Thanks I'll give that a go!

I have a Reef Octopus BH-1000 and an Aquamaxx HOB-1. I absolutely love both of them. One is running on a 20gal mixed Reef and the other on my 26gal frogfish tank.
