Good on you for the amazing recovery.Liveaquaria. They have seriously declined.
What did you feed? I’m going to buy some frozen mysis since someone suggested that. I have pellets that I was recommended so I’ll interchange as needed.Your water probably wasnt the cause but better water quality will help with healing. HLLE isn't usually fatal but infection can set in. You'll be surprised how fast it will turn around with diet and water parameters in check. I noticed real improvement in less than 30 days. The first two pictures are a week apart and the last is the fish now. I've been running Rox carbon with no issues also.

I took out my Carbon yesterday as people recommended and noticed that when I sprayed it with water from my hose it began to disintegrate and shatter into chunks. I have bought Selcon concentrate, it’s on the way!For what it's worth, I have a naso tang that is healthy as a horse and I use carbon 24/7. But what you want to avoid is cheaper carbon that can be dusty. I always THOROUGHLY rinse the heck out my carbon prior to adding it. From what I understand, it is the dust that can case it . I do also use selcon in their food too. Polylab makes a great activated carbon.
I fed my homemade food, white worms and Nori. My homemade has fresh clams, shrimp, nori, mysis, spirulina powder, spirulina brine shrimp, squid, chopped nori and silver sides all chopped up ran through a food processor. I added some Selcon and garlic extract to the mix. Im a believer of Paul B feeding foods with gut bacteria. That same fish has had ich and completely recovered from that too without quarantine or medication. What did you feed? I’m going to buy some frozen mysis since someone suggested that. Good morning, I use activated carbon 24/7, but as I mentioned earlier I do rinse it quite well first. I have never heard of coconut carbon. Can you tell me anything about it? Does it work as well as activated carbon? As has been mentioned already, HLLE is thought to be caused from lignite (coal) carbon dust. Coconut carbon is a better product for aquaria. It's not often that fish with HLLE will heal, it usually doesn't go away. If you've got a fish that has healed and isn't scarred up, you've got the 1 in 1000 that's gotten better. I usually only see it in Zebrasoma tangs, Hippos and some angels. In the last 6 months I'm seeing fish at some LFS that are coming from the wholesaler with HLLE, I don't know what that's about.
I just read the HLLE article written on here, will remove carbon once back home and do a filter clean as I’m long due for one. (I’m actually unsure if I still have carbon in the filter). I read that sunlight helps so I’m doing that.
Temp runs 78-80F
Salinity 1.022

Great to know Jay, Thank you! I have often wondered. I had a Hippo years ago that developed it, so I was not sure.Naso tangs don't seem to develop HLLE, so using carbon with them is not an issue.
Improper diet can also cause it.As has been mentioned already, HLLE is thought to be caused from lignite (coal) carbon dust. Coconut carbon is a better product for aquaria. Is ozone a cause of HLLE too?Any ozone use?
It’s one of the suspected causesIs ozone a cause of HLLE too?
I’ve been using ozone. No carbon ever. Parameters all good. Low phosphate and nitrate. I dose AFR. My biota yellow tang is getting HLLE. I can’t get it to eat anything but the 5 different macro algae’s I have and whatever grows on the rocks. I don’t know what else to do. I’m going to stop the ozone. It’s one of the suspected causesIs ozone a cause of HLLE too?
