So on the 5th we moved all my fish from my 22g to my 10g QT tank. Those being two purple firefish, one clown goby, and two clownfish. In the QT before those were added was a coral beauty and a six line wrasse. And the first day after we did a FWD on the coral beauty he died.. Now going back two days one fire fish died, we just thought he died because of stress since doing the move from DT to QT he got beat up pretty bad because he was in the rocks and we couldn't get him out. We put one dose of KanaPlex in the QT for his lip since it got cut. But other than that there's only copper in the tank. Now yesterday the other fire fish died and now today the six line is on his way out.. I'm so confused as to what is going on, I don't think there was an ammonia spike because all I did was go from feeding once a day to maybe twice or three times a day and I made sure it wasn't too much.. But also maybe it could be the copper? I know we haven't added copper everyday so maybe we didn't ramp the copper up fast enough? We usually check the copper then see what it's at and like right now it's at 0.4 so we added a few more drops of copper but the last time we added copper was two days ago so I don't know if that's the problem? Also all the fish that have died, were all breathing fast and laying on the bottom but that's it for the signs.. Also all the fish have ich so I don't know I'm so stressed and worried.. And also there is a ammonia badge on the tank and it's on yellow so ammonia is fine.I just don't want the rest of my fish to die.. Also in the tank we have gravel sand and rocks, I don't know if that's a problem or not?.. So please if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated..

I have never QTed my fish (because my LFS does) but that seems like an aweful lot of fish for a 10 gallon... it could be something as simple as stress.
Why did you take them out of the 22g to QT?

Well for one they were all small fish, and two the other QT tank had fish in it and the other one didn't have a filter so putting them in the one QT tank was our only choice and getting a new QT tank was out of the question because at the time we didn't have any extra money to buy one. I mean we could now but what's the point since there's only four fish in the tank.. but they all had ich so that's why we moved them.

I'm sorry you guys are still having problems. :(

Any time you are treating with copper it is best to do it in a tank without sand and rocks. They can absorb the copper and make it difficult to keep the proper level needed for treatment.

While Ich could be causing the rapid breathing, what are you doing to aerate the water or using for filtration?

Are you using a flashlight to check the ammonia badge?

Yes very true but we just thought since it isn't too much sand and rock that it wouldn't be too much of a problem but we could have moved the sand and rock but at the time it was too late and we rushed and put copper in the tank.. And as of filtration we have a HOB filter and that's it, should we add something else? And no I guess I can go check it right now with a flash light.

That's the badge, I mean I guess it could be in between the green and yellow?

And as of filtration we have a HOB filter and that's it, should we add something else?
Which HOB filter is it? It really helps to oversize the filter when used in a QT/HT. Some med's can cause bacteria blooms or otherwise deplete oxygen from the water so more flow always helps.

Do you have an air stone you can add to the tank?

Do you have a sponge in the HOB filter? If so, I would put PVC fittings in the tank and slowly remove the rocks. You will need to leave the sand in the tank for now.

A marine land, the biggest one we could get. And we do have one but it's on the other two QT tanks at the moment, and no I don't have a sponge. But ok I'll start doing that when I get home from work.

What do you have in the HOB filter? Or are you just running it empty?

I just have a piece of filter floss it it.
Filter floss acts like a sponge for holding bacteria, so you should be ok to start removing rock. Only remove a piece when you will be around to observe the ammonia. You don't want to remove too much too quickly.

Alright but my question about the rock and sand is, is that it's basically like the only two things I have for bacteria plus the bio wheel. So would it do anything to the tank by removing the rocks?

The filter floss is also holding bacteria. Since it is in the highest flow, it should be doing the most work. As you slowly remove the rock it will cause the bacteria on the remaining surfaces to increase and should keep things in balance. Just don't remove too much rock too quickly.

Also do wrasses and fire fish just not do too good in copper?
I think with wrasses it can depend on the species but I don't have any experience with them. I find fire fish to be very difficult to keep in a QT. I've given up trying to add them even though they are beautiful fish. Tried to get them through QT twice and failed both times. :(

Ok well there's three small pieces so should I remove one piece everyday or what?

One piece a day is what I would do. Do you have PVC pipe fittings in there for them to use as shelter?

It's so odd though, they went through QT three times. One from the store and another when they got velvet and both other times were fine but the one time with velvet it was only the two of them and it was bare bottom with some PVC and HOB and a air stone so big difference for this time around..

Yes at the movement there's actually a plastic flower thing that the wrasse usually sleeps in but this morning he was laying on the sand so that's how I knew something was up with him but yes there's a few PVC pipes in there for the goby just not big enough ones for the clowns..
