Guys I have two questions I've never quarantined nor giving cupramine before so this is my first time . I've read that some wrasses can't handle copper. I had multiple fishes get ich and foggy eyes in my DT so I took the remaining fishes out and currently going fallow for 90 days. I have the leopard wrasse and a pajama Cardinal that never had any signs of ich or foggy in a 10 gallon QT that I set up 3 weeks ago. But I beleive I have to treat them any ways if I'm correct. My questions are can I use cupramine for my leopard wrasse ? She sleeps at night in a container with sand that I put for her. If I can do cupramine do I do it during the day while she's out or at night while she's in the sand ? Is there a difference ? Also maybe @Humblefish can help I know he's very knowledgeable in this topic ... Thank you everyone for your help !! Greatly appreciated lol

I strongly recommend TTM with the leopard wrasse. It will work just fine with those two fish together. If you can't manage TTM, then I absolutely agree with humble..... chelated copper is the way to go here. good luck! Make sure to get the Api copper test kit for this kind of copper.

Thank you guys for your Responses !! Yes I agree I think TTM may be the best but I really don't think I can do that now. Will try coppersafe. @melypr1985 @Humblefish I did buy the test kit :). Btw humble I did read your thread on QT and I've been reading up on random threads and seeing what everyone has been writing and your self, I do have to say I've learned a lot just by looking and searching what people say. Thank you guys again I feel more of a competent parent now to my fishes lol [emoji106][emoji2]

I had 4 leopard wrasses that went through quarantine using coppersafe successfully.
One thing that may have been a big factor is I took 5 days to bring the copper up to full strength.
Good luck with yours.

Take the full dosage, divide by 5 and add that amount each day until you reach full dosage. Be sure to test at least once a day (twice is better) to ensure therapeutic dose is maintained.

Yep, that was about it.
That and doubled up on the testing.
IMO, the API test kit leaves a lot to be desired.

With Coppersafe it's 5ml per 4 gallons, or 1.25 ml per gallon

@Deinonych @mfinn one last question guys [emoji16][emoji16]. What is the therapeutic dose ?? It doesn't say on the bottle or test kit. It only says its toxic over 0.5 I believe ?? Thanks again guys I'm so glad I reached out on reef2reef to make the correct choice !

Coppersafe's therapeutic range is from 1.5-2 ppm. I keep the fish system at the store at 2ppm all the time that way if it drops a little, there is some wiggle room

We must be talking about 2 different types of copper I used chelated copper ( Coppersafe) which you want to get a level of 2.0 ppm.
With ionic copper the dosage would be to not to exceed .20ppm .

I have had leopards survive cupramine and coppersafe. With leopards I haven't noticed a difference. With halichoeres wrasse definitely coppersafe is superior.

I've used Cupramine with a leopard wrasse before and it didn't make the full period, stopped eating even after lowering the dosage. I have used CopperPower which is a chelated copper on fairies and a leopard with success and I'm currently QTing all of my fish with CopperSafe which is also a chelated copper. While Cupramine is a fine product that works I'm going to continue using chelated copper especially with wrasses.

I would treat the eye infection first, as copper will suppress the fish's immune system further. IME, Melafix doesn't do anything except make your tank smell like tea. :) I suggest using a proper antibiotic like kanamycin or nitrofurazone to clear the eye problem.

Is it just the one eye or both? Is it swollen at all? I agree with kanaplex to treat with.

Thank you deinonych !! Will hit the store when it opens. I hear medication cuts the oxygen in the water. Should I buy a cheap wave maker just for the extra oxygen ?? I have a small penguin 100 now on a 10 gallon ?
