Choosing lights has been the bane of my existence due to some very specific circumstances I must follow regarding my build.

I need to minimize the 'usage' of wifi and wifi-related things in my build, due to the other occupants of my home being 'sensitive' to it. This seems to be an extremely household-specific issue, so I'm not sure if anyone will have a definitive answer, but when any programmable fixture can be controlled with wifi (reefi, radion, orphek, mitras, kessil, ai, etc.), do the light fixtures themselves emit a constant wifi signal, or do they only receive a wifi signal. Basically what I'm trying to find out if my wifi needs to be on 24/7 for these lights to function, or if I only need to have the wifi on while I'm programming them. I also need to know if fixtures have a wifi signal of their own.

Assuming the wifi must always be on, what options do I have for non-wifi fixtures?

My current plan was to try and just get 2x ai coral grow blades to light my EXT 100 but I am not sure that is enough. (I plan to start soft/lps only)

The Blades use bluetooth, not wifi for connection, so that would solve the wifi issue.

I would suggest going with three Blades, two Grows and a Glow. With the correct mounting height, they should cover the entire tank well and, surprisingly, they'd probably be all the light you'd ever need on that tank. Dial them down for LPS and softies, or dial them up if you want to grow SPS.

its likely ill do this. LFS recommended me to get a 59w bulb and i kinda didnt buy into it, lol. If I ever plan to upgrade my lighting, whats the best course of action (since I know people will still use blades as extra lights even if they have main fixtures)

I kind of doubt you'd NEED to upgrade lighting, maybe WANT to, though.

AI recommends 2 Grows and a Glow, but if you felt like you wanted or needed more, you could do 3 Grows and 2 Glows, or do a hybrid type setup with a couple more traditional features, then use your Blades as supplements.

There are a TON of possibilities.

man you gotta understand i ask the same question every single time its brought up😔
Interesting. A search says double blind studies show its not a thing. All in the head.
I just wish I could manage to convince them it’s not as serious as they make it out to be lol. Can you please link me this double blind study so I can show them? It would help me immensely

I was thinking more along the lines of conventional fixtures like the xr15s or reefis or whatnot. Over all the noise from the whole WiFi issue I still haven’t had the time to actually figure out what the difference between conventional fixtures and blades are besides the size.

The one BIG thing that strip lights (Blades, Quanta Helix, Orphek OR bars, etc) have going for them is the end-to-end coverage they provide. A bank of strips will cover a tank in a blanket of light more even than almost any traditional fixtures can provide. That's not important to everyone, and every light has its own benefits and drawbacks. I mean, AI got a lot right with the Blades, but they're not perfect either. They are PLENTY "good enough", though... If you run the Grow/Glow combo.

In my experience only connect to Wi fi when they are being programed. I do have a manual light called a Razor. I assume there are lots of others. I actually was talking to a lady about this and her Husband had to get out of the house due to the fact they lived near a cell tower booster. She showed me readings. I don't know if its the same thing but spooky
