Finally rented the Apogee off of BRS and was able to get some PAR readings. Taken while running powerheads and with aquarium lid on.

Par levels across my 90 gallon.
Used MQ-210 meter
Fixture is 7.5” above water

Lit using
ATI 4bulb (2- B+ and 2- C+)
2- reef breeders lumen bars
One is their royal ice and one is their HO UV
To note: I saw an avg increase of around 114par across all readings when LED’s were turned on. That was with 26 different readings and the removal of two outliers that I considered inadmissible.

Adding to this wonderful resource. I rented a PAR meter and took some measurements in the tank
  • Type of meter you are using for measurements- MQ-510
  • Type of lighting- Radion XR30 Pro gen4 with diffuser
  • LED users if possible include percentages used for different colors- Screenshot of settings added.
  • Height of lighting over your water- Using the RMS arm. Sits about 8.5 inches above the water level
  • Depth of water- 18 inches
  • Pumps or power heads running? Return Pump and powerheads running
The tank is a reefer 250- 36x20x21 The question. Can an single XR30 Pro light a reefer 250?

I mapped out 6 inch by 6 inch sections of the tank and held the meter in a few spots in each section then took a general average of the PAR readings in the area (This was an eyeball estimate and not an calculated mean).

First settings is pretty close to AB+ with a bit less warm white at 40% intensity. The grids will be 6"x 6" sections looking from the top down of the tank. (na indicates a rockwork was in the way)

Top 6"

Since I want to start to add some SPS these numbers were not exactly where I wanted them to be so I settled at about 68% intensity. Those numbers look like this

Top 6"
451753502709035
7526044038021560
4010018018010035

Here is a shot of the tank with some more sample numbers with the 68% intensity settings above. So can a single XR30 pro gen 4 light a reefer 250. I would say yes with some conditions. Lower outer ends will get pretty low in par but still plenty for softies etc.

I have the meter for another day or two so if anyone has any requests let me know and I will take some more readings.

Great thread! I just put this together yesterday hoping to get some feedback regarding my light values. Wasn't sure if I had things turned up enough.
• Type of meter you are using for measurements: Apogee SQ520 (immersion settings on)
• Type of lighting: Four Radion XR30 Pro Gen 4 with diffusers (ages vary: 1-2 years old)
• LED users if possible include percentages used for different colors: WWC running at 77% (overall says 55% at specific points). Settings screen shot listed below.
• Height of lighting over your water: 10" ( Mounted on Ecotech RMS)
• Depth of water: 21.5” (bare bottom, Red Sea Reefer xxl 750)
• Pumps or power heads running? Return pump, Gyre running on top left near surface, 3xMP40 left side of tank
• Any other factors that may contribute to readings such as room lighting, windows, tank in sunroom? Readings taken during a cloudy day, indirect sunlight comes in the room but nothing directly hits the tank. outdoor plants block direct sunlight. The tank's mesh top was off with the readings, so I cannot accurately say how much that decreases things. The two support bars on it likely create shadowing.

This is a mixed reef tank. It is almost a year old and has kept these settings throughout the time. Corals have been growing just not as quickly as I'd like. Some frags have stayed the same frag size since I got them a year ago. Everything was transferred from a 90gl. If you are wondering what the <--> line in the back is, I wanted to see what the values were against the back glass for when I add a frag rack.

This is going to be different bc I built my lights but here goes, the lights are led hung 8" off the water. The diodes are run on ldd drivers the cool white and blue are on ldd-700 the rest on ldd 500.

Here's the mix
30 cool white cree xpe 623nm
90 blue cree xpe 450
15 semi UV 415nm
15 semi UV 420nm
30 rebel cyan 490nm
10 rebel lime 566nm
10 rebel amber 594nm

There are no secondary optics but the board is built of sheet aluminum making all the light possible reflect down. The tank is roughly 150gals but 135 true with rock, no window light etc and set up as a mixed reef.

Par readings done with a seneye at 100%.
I really like the Amber and lime visual balance in this build. My par map is hand written hope it's good enough. Also an unedited stocked pic for visual reference.

Apogee mq200. 250 watts halide, tested 5 inches below the bulb ABOVE the water line and only getting a reading of 335. Lumenarc large reflectors (19/19/9 reflector)
does a number that low sound right or no?
i guess I would have thought it’d been higher.

An ignorant question: How do you put the par numbers into an image?

No such thing as ignorant questions ;) I have an app on my iPad I use.. maybe try googling “how to insert txt into pictures for your device”, I’m sure there are multiple ways to do it.

Most drawing programs, like MS Paint will let you type text in an image. For a phone app I use Google Slides.

I'm running 4 Red Sea led units over a standard 48" 120 gallon tank, from left to right: 90, 50, 50, 90, with the two 50 watt models split over the center brace. The lights are mounted 8 inches above the surface spaced evenly apart. The measurements below are from the center and front third of the tank, where rockwork allowed for measurements. Each light is running at approximately 20,000 Kelvin. I took readings with my seneye mounted to a PVC/egg crating rack shown below

Well I rented a par meter from BRS after I finished setting up my hybrid set up so I thought I would share my findings.

My tank is a 120g 48x24x24

Led lighting-2 Hydra 26 HDs. Running a modified version of the AB+ program

T5 lighting- 48" Aquatic Life hybrid running 2 ATI Blue+ 1 ATI coral+ and 1 ATI actinic

The fixture is hanging 12" above the water

I removed mesh screens and turned off all water flow for the readings.

I used an MQ-510 par meter

What % are all your colours on please?
That was all channels at 100% but the corals did not like that. I took the red down to 5%, cyan 80%, blue 100%, purple 80%, and white all the down to 35%. Unfortunately I sent the par meter back before I changed the settings so I’m not sure what the levels are now but all my softies and LPS are doing well. Slow growing and I have to feed reef Roids along with amino acids.

Thanks so much, although I only have white blue red and green on mine?
