I am trying to rebuild my tank and I am trying to figure out if I have a parasite issue or my virgate rabbit is causing the problem. I’ve seen large white discolorations on random places on my pylei that last a day or two. The scales fall off and leave either a thin line or a dot. This happens at least once a month for the last 6 months. A picture would help I know but the discoloration doesn’t show up on any pictures I have taken. The spacing between the lines has increase as my rabbit has grown. Both my Pylei and Randall Goby nip at the poor rabbit so I think these wounds are from my rabbit defending himself.
I am starting to second guess myself. My 2 new fairy wrasses are starting to display the behavioral patterns of marine velvet. My exquisite wrasse is swimming around near the surface in high flow areas and my Walindi Fairy Wrasse is diving into the rocks and rubbing his scales. I also saw thin blotches on my wrasses and started treating my entire system with prazi.
I waited 24 hours after treating with prazi to post. The spots are gone on my wrasses and the pylei seems to be bouncing back from his latest wounds (or outbreak?). Everything seems to be going back to normal. I have had various worm issues before and the prazi seems to work. My LFS has velvet issues and I haven't had any problems in my display since I started quarantining my fish but I am still paranoid.
I have a new clownfish pair I was planning on moving into my tank to replace the rabit but I want to make sure I solved the problem first. I have a friend with a bigger tank that will provide a permanent home for my rabbit and the materials needed for a rabbit trap are on order so his days are numbered. The stress on an injured fish and new arrivals was the main reason I had parasite issues but I want to make sure I solved the problem. I just put the clowns in quarantine last week so I am in no rush.
I also have an ORA neon goby in quarantine with my clowns. I bought the goby for its unique behavior and coloration but I’ve read the neon gobies help control certain types of parasites. Would it help to move him from quarantine earlier than the clowns?
