I am thinking of adding a rabbitfish to my 150gal(36x36x27) when it is setup. I have read if you keep them well feed they are reef safe is this true? I was intrested in a Two Barred Rabbitfish Siganus virgatus. Would it be ok if not I was wondering what species would you recommend. The tank will be an LPS dominated tank. The livestock that will be coming from my current tank will be;
2 Ocellaris clowns
3 bluegreen chromis
1 yellow tang
1 tomini tang
3 lyertail anthias

I might also look I to adding a wrasse but I don't know about that yet.

If there is no live algae in the tank do they requier any special feeding?

Thanks
Christopher

I've only had experience with a scribbled rabbit, but it wasn't pleasant. Any given fish may be reef safe, but you never know until you try.

My scribbled started off eating razor caulerpa. After it finished that off, it ate 4 zoa colonies in a few days, then went after acan lords, then echinatas. Finally, it took out a green pocillopora. I was removed that evening (four days into the non algae rampage).

I have bought a Scribble Rabbit fish to eat some red turf algae and he devoured it in a matter of days . so far so good he hasent nippped at any corals in 3 weeks . but i do feed my tank alot and make sure he is well fed .I almost feel like i am feeding him too much and hes gonna end up being a floating ball in my tank :)

not recommended at all. cool fish, but WILL nip and eat coral at some point. your choice. you have officially been warned

ps. my brother did keep a foxface in his 150g mixed reef with no problems at all in 5 years. but i have personally seen them chow down on xenia and polyps. he had both with no issues.
depends on the individual. but he will cost at most $100 and he could eat that in a day
