Anyone have pictures or recommendations on how to put radion xr30s in their canopy? In the past I just screwed one of those aluminum bars to the top and then mounted the lights to that but I always was nervous of it falling in. Just got a new tank/canopy from Glasscages so want some ideas

Not many do, but if you can secure them then you are all set. You have to ventilate them. The units can get quite hot which will lead to premature death. They need to be kept cool not unlike T5s, PCs or MH in a canopy.

the back of the canopy is open so it should be alright... was thinking of putting a vent hole or two on the top also

This is exactly what I did.

I used a drill bit to screw holes along the middle of the rail and just put a ton of screws in it.

I couldn’t think of a better way without getting them uncomfortably close to the water.

I have a pair of small fans also mounted up in there to move the hot air out the back. Works great

If you feel heat in there that is at all more than the ambient room you will need fans. ...ask all of the folks who had their expensive LEDs quit just after the warranty period. Helps to the the humidity out of there too. :(

I have 2 fans for mine, just ordered 2 more. The back is open. Do you recommend all 4 blowing in or 2 in and 2 pulling out?

When I used MH in a canopy, I used a Vornado - I do not think that it mattered about this at all. I did not use smaller DC fans. I am not the best person to ask about this. Just keeping the front of the hood open does a lot too, but that kinda defeats the purpose of most hoods.

80/20 frame connected to a tubular shade motor which I control from my phone for raising and lowering.

Well looks like I'm light shopping for the first time since the gen 2s came out. Tank is 3ftx2ftx2ft will be mixed reef but mostly sps. Think I will be alright with 3 gen6 xr15s or should I just bite the 2000 dollar bullet and get 2 xr30s

I run two fans with a combo of led's strips & fixtures and t5's. Both fans push outside air in, and force the air out the back side of the canopy.

You’ll need a holesaw, a drill and some m5-.08 screws that are about 30mm, or whatever, get some washer too. Get a template of your radions, and make sure to drill the holes for the buttons too. My G5s actually cool down my canopy since they pull the air from the outside, and I never have an issue with heat in the canopy even with all t5s working. I used to have G4s in there and they worked just fine. The fan is to cool down my tank in the summer.
