Random Dispar Anthia Death

Well

I had a random death in last few hours.

One of my Dispar Anthias died. I unfortunately only have a death picture.
I have 6 more dispars and 4 lyretails all are acting fine as was the one that died.
From Dr Reef QT and I have had them all since December 2024

The ONLY change was young two inch purple tang. However there was no bite marks ripped fins or scratches or anything
I dont think it was aggression

Mouth was open upon discovery

These fishes like to eat constantly. It could be just the image but the gut looks discolored and possibly sunken in? Sorry about this loss.

yeah its just the angle of the body. His stomach wasnt sunken but was discolored. I believe discoloration happens after death? Not sure

Mouth was open upon discovery

With the mouth open, tells me it suffered low oxygen event or elevated nitrates despite other fish doing well.
Gagging on a food particle such as pellets are another possibility
Fish does look slightly thin also in pic

Nitrates are around 34
PH is 8.1

Got a large skimmer running and alot of surface agitation

I havent feed pellets in a while. Usually feed Brine shrimp LRS Reef frenzy Calanus blood worms and fish eggs

I feed a cube of each alternating the eggs and calanus each day and about an inch of LRS

Fish just die sometimes, no explanation. Like humans. Sad but true.

Im worried its uronema but there is no indication of redness around the sides of the fish

I also looked around the gills and mouth. I couldnt see anything apparent atleast.


The open mouth and I guess maybe slighty thin stomach are the symptoms

You have the right foods and nitrates not enough to promote death and may be " Mysterious death" . Was this fish the smallest of the batch?

There is a smaller dispar so he wasnt the smallest in terms of length.

I do have another healthy lyretail now gasping at the surface ugh let post a video.

Add air stone to tank and revisit ammonia levels. A water change would not hurt and assure salinity is 1.024-1.026 as a drop in salinity along with waste present in tank cause problems for them leading up to uronema in which prevention is best remedy

Okay ill test salinity and ammonia.

Ammonia is 0.16

Tested with hanna marine master

Only ammonia tester i got right now

Ammonia may be issue and I trust this kit. You want .025 or below. Water changes will be warranted

Im about to perform a 20% change so hopefully that will be good for tonight.

Not sure why its elevated i haven't done anything different

Dying with a open mouth is a key symptom of Uronema, but the fish would also have a skin lesion that you would have noticed.

Well its been 24 hours everyone is acting good im about to feed. Not sure the true cause of that death but the other lyretail quit gasping after awhile. I did a 20% water change anyway. He was only one doing it and hasnt anymore since

So not sure on this one but will continue to monitor

My pike did the same thing with the mouth open
