RED SEA REEF LED 90 problem

Hi there hoping that someone may have an easy fix for the issue with an led90 I have recently brought second hand. The fan unit stays on permanently even when I disconnect from the app. Anybody had this issue thanks in advance.

If it's what I think you're talking about then it's supposed to. Just because you disconnect from the app doesn't mean the light turns off if it is still plugged in. Not sure if that's what you mean?

It's possible that it may need to be cleaned out. Found this video that goes through cleaning the smaller RL50 light. Should be pretty similar to the 90

Mine never come on, I would definitely take it apart and clean it.

Are you running them at 100%?

I contacted red sea and they’ve just replied saying I would need to change 3 internal parts 1. LED array 2. Bottom circuit board and 3 the fan it’s self. Not what I wanted to hear so better of just buying a new one . Thankyou for your advice I will look into cleaning it but don’t hold much hope

Uh.. this sounds like a nonsense answer because they don't want to deal with you because you're not the original owner. You won't be covered under the warranty, so don't even bother with them. Disassemble it, clean it, see how it goes.

Even if parts need to be replaced, it would likely just be the fan by itself. Don't really understand why you'd need to replace the other parts as well.

Little narrative in case this helps anyone else at some point in time:

Bought a used redsea90 and unfortunately, the person likely lied to me about it It’s functionality. When I opened the case, there was salt in the frame as well as on the motherboard themselves. When I turned, the light on the light would flicker, and if I push pushed or hit the power supply and just the right way, the light would turn on, but I had no ability to press the Wi-Fi reset. Once I got all the way down to the motherboard I spent about four hours scrubbing the motherboard with Q-tips and a very soft toothbrush and electrical cleaner. I sprayed directly into the Wi-Fi button with electrical cleaner and just press the button about 5000 times and lone behold the Wi-Fi button start working again. I VERY CAREFULLY use the sewing needle to clean off some of the harder and crusted salt and dirt and what other unholy mess was on that board. I end up replacing the light with a different power supply from Amazon and when I plugged everything in the light still wasn’t quite turning on and the fan wasn’t running. Fast-forward several more hours of cleaning and taking the top board off. Assembly finally allowed the light to come on and the Wi-Fi button to work… little hit for people just because the button clicks does not mean the contact is actually working so keep spraying stuff into it. Keep pushing it million times and keep praying it works….. so at this point, I’m happy I reassemble the light it’s connects to the app. But the fan won’t stop running at some point in the cleaning process when the Wi-Fi button was not working I did some research and apparently a dead fan can cause the Wi-Fi button not to work so I have to check that the fan which wasn’t running wasn’t shorted. I splice the wire by cutting the black and red, but leaving the green connected and connected it to a cut 5v iPhone charger, cord and block. When that got plugged into the wall, the fan turned on so it won’t behold. The fan is not shorted now I don’t know if slicing the wire is what causes the fan to run constantly. Thankfully, my friend has a reef LED 90 and at some point this weekend I’m going to go take hers apart, plug her fan into mine and pray to God it does not run continuously if that’s the case, I’ll buy the $25 fan if that’s not the case we’ll see how long my light runs on my basement tank before it decides to explode, catch fire or any other unholy thing because… It’s a red sea light what else do we expect?
