Red Sea Reefer 170 G2+ seam

So I have just purchased my first red sea tank, I only got it home 2 days ago. Upon building the stand and inspecting the tank, I have noticed a bubble of some sort in the front lower seam.. I have been trying to contact red sea customer support but unable to submit a ticket. Just wanted to get people opinions on the best course of action as this is my first time dealing with this sort of thing.

That's what I'm thinking, it's brand new, pretty upset I decided to go with red sea at this point lol. Unfortunately whenever I try to submit a ticket on the red sea website it says there is some error with my info. Not impressed with red sea at all..

This is unacceptable from a company that is supposed to be the BMW of the aquarium business. This is a very expensive hobby. We are talking a minimum of 2k just to set up a small reef tank. I used to be in astronomy, and a good scope was 1k. This is over and beyond. Most reefers spend 3-5k or much more to set up a decent-sized tank to see them fail. Besides the loss of the stock, the damage to a home can be tens of thousands of dollars. I am now scared to the point of having second thoughts about buying a medium-large tank. Red Sea should be sued, but good luck on that, as they will never give the statistics of tank failures out, and they sell thousands of tanks. The best thing is not to buy the product. Maybe they will get the message, fix the issue, and treat their customers right.

I did get into contact with their customer support, and they are sending me a new tank for free. But I completely agree with you, after reading all the seam issues with red sea I was very hesistant to buy this tank, and sure enough it came out of production with a bubble in the seam, but they sent it off anyways. Incredibly disappointed in my first experience with red sea, atleast their customer service has been top notch for me thats all I can say.

Good news then, You are lucky you did not have it set up and blown up. I hope you have better luck with the new tank. Totally unacceptable, and you paid a pretty penny for it to go through QC if there is a QC and have it shipped out. We are getting more and more expensive trash shipped from China. It's the same in auto parts. I had to have 2 power steering racks in my older car as the parts blew up a few months after they were put in. Did the same for a water pump. The problem is it's made in China with poor QC control!

I'd sell it and buy an IM or WB.

I would have to humbly disagree with your blanket statement. China has among the best QC, as long as you are willing to pay for it.....the problem is consumers are not willing to pay for a higher cost item. They want cheap, and then complain about QC.

But the prices of these tanks are not cheap. So then RS is not enforcing QC and making a killing in the process. It should be top quality when we pay so much money for a glass tank.

Yeah this whole experience has really turned me off of wanting to have an aquarium again.

Don't use red sea, warning I'm so sorry they've done this to our hobby

Enough ground swell is forming, they should pay all these buyers. It's time for class action, enough pattern is on the web to show intent to hide these losses from consumers in my opinion. Refusing to allow break posts on their social media hides the design flaw from willing buyers

A bubble isn’t uncommon in other brands of tanks, just look at a Aqueon.

It is best not to buy Red Sea if it will keep you awake at night wondering.

I wouldn’t stress that micro blemish in the least. It’s at the base of the armored seam protector and not material to the glass seam. I picked up a used 300xl and set up in my 3rd car garage bay with far worse looking seams. My belief upon setting that up on their stand is the problem is with the stands and the leveling feet sinking into the ****** wood over time. In my case the dude had it set up in the center of a double wide trailer where the floors shook with every step. No surprise the tank to some hits, any would under those circumstances.

It sure does look like it's at the base of the armored seam, considering this is a brand new tank I'm still a little skeptical about using it. I've contacted RS customer support we'll see what they say this time, as now they are asking for a measurement of the blemish.

So RS has gotten back to me and said it is just a blemish in the armored seam and nothing that compromises the integrity of the tank. However they are still offering to replace it if I'd like. Guess I'm gonna roll the dice on a 3rd one and see how that goes.

I’m not sure if they can do this, but maybe you can get them to have someone visually check it out before it is shipped?
