Red Sea tank fail

So this is my second Red Sea tank what’s bust its seams on me. Still in warranty but what’s the point getting another Red Sea for that to fail a few years down the line. I’ve seen a few g2 tanks fail also.

Can anyone recommend a decent reliable tank?

Oof! This is so sad to see…. I’m so sorry for your loss!! Hopefully you were able to save all or at least some livestock?

I have an innovative marine. Beautiful tank.....but I would not recommend it. The sump is huge. Really limits where I can place things. And the back is awful. I did not realize it wasn't glass. And it scratched up easily. The glass scratches easily also. I think Glass Cages, and just the normal glass. None of that easy to scratch stuff for me ever again. It was my sand that contributed to the scratches. For whatever reason there is some that sticks to my magnet cleaner. Like in magnetized. Good luck and sorry for your loss. They used to make a great tank.

So sorry! For this to happen twice to you is truly horrible. Red Sea needs to start refunding money to people this happens to instead of replacing tanks. Why should someone be forced to take another chance on accepting a replacement on an unreliable tank as compensation or get nothing at all?

I would love it if there was a way to red flag RedSea tanks to every unsuspecting buyer who is looking a new setup. Too many reefers are still not aware until after they buy a tank and join R2R.

Honestly though, if the tank seams bust on me once, I would NOT be buying that tank again.

Unless it was a replacement that the company provided with no choice for a full refund instead.

Either way, sorry for all the trouble you had to go through with these leaks

They don’t offer refunds.

In warranty they will replace the tank. Out of warranty they are offering some people a credit toward buying a equal size tank or larger. Any form of money back does not seem to be on the table. And the credit as mentioned, has stipulations.

So, if you spent $3000 on a tank and it leaks after warranty, some people are offered a $600 credit. But they can’t use that credit towards a $1500 tank or towards lights or gear. They have to use it towards a tank and spend ANOTHER $3000 or more to get the credit

I currently have a Waterbox tank and like both the tank build quality and the cabinet. I don’t think the cabinets are as good as Cade aquarium cabinets though.

My only gripe with the Waterbox is that I have gotten scratches in the glass so appear to have been made very easily. I just don’t know how I got some of them and even started to wonder if a snails shell could have caused them.

@Joe Glass Cages makes tanks, he has a good reputation as a solid builder, and I have never heard any complaints about Joe's customer service. Someday I gotta meet the guy!
Planet Aquarium is Formerly Oceanic. I have a 30+ yr old Oceanic Tank, I swear by them.
CADE has a solid rep for quality tanks.

It’s low iron glass I know that for sure. Whether it’s Starfire or not I don’t know.

Tank prices are crazy anymore. $3000 for a sub 100g tank is insane. I have looked at Glasscages and while all tank prices are outrageous anymore these seem better priced than some. I get a lot of the time these are kits and some of the tanks are very high end. In '15 I got a marineland 180g rr and a harwood stand and canopy for $3000, the stand and canopy were 3/4 of the price. Marineland tanks are not high end. That combo today is over $5000. I would not be spending anywhere near that on a redsea tank after seeing this type of thread so many times.

Sorry this has happened hopefully you did not incur too many expensive repairs to fix the spillage. Also hope you were able to save the inhabitants.

Yeah after one seam failure and redoing my living room floors I wouldnt ever be able to sleep with a red sea tank over 5 gallons in the house. If your going big some of the major options have eurobracing and metal stands. in hindsight I think large rimless even with thicker glass is just a recipe for disaster. Personally splurging on a glasscages tank order.(nothing against reefsavy but i generally believe most 100% topend things have an excessive name tax for a quality difference I likely wont notice)
