Oh yeah, you can smell what I'm stepping in! It took a bit of puppy's eyes (read that as begging from there floor) but my accountant (the wife has me on a budget as money flows through my fingers like water) finally relented that it would be nice(to get me off her back) to have symmetrical light fixtures. But i did have to trade that for the new 3d printer i had my eye on.
Which printer did you have your eye on?

Speaking of 3d printers... finally got the parts for the kalk stirer printed out and put together. I think it turned out pretty good for a v1.5 attempt. We are headed out of town today though so it will have to wait to be put in service.

I was heavily leaning towards the bambu P1S, with the AMC. They have some pretty crazy sales going on them now that made it fairly reasonable, even with the ecosystem lock. Either that or the Anycubic kobra s1 max with the amc equivalent.

I have no idea what any of that means but was asking to get info on what would be good to buy if I were to buy a printer.

I know @tbrown is into the 3D printer thingyverse too. You have any suggestions, TIm?

What about @dantimdad and his experience? ANy suggestions, Stephen?

Bambulabs is good. P1S AMS is on sale for $550 right now for Black Friday (ask me how I know???). I actually just had this same discussion with a buddy of mine. Bambu with AMS will be my next printer. P1S is most likely due to print size and full enclosure.

If you can swing it the new P2S has some pretty significant upgrades over the P1S.

The P1S is still a really good printer. If it had been on sale I might have bought it instead of the Elegoo Centauri Carbon. The only problems with their closed ecosystem is that the only slicer you can use easily with it now is the Bambu Slicer (which is a really good slicer) and there is a concern, shared by me, that they could shut it all down anytime they want to. That said I really like using the A1 and A1 Mini. They are both excellent printers that 'just work'. A much nicer ecosystem than Elegoo's or Creality's.

I would get the P2S. I have the P1S and an a1 mini among other printers. I am probably going to snag one after the rush dies down on them.
Yep, that was my reasoning too. The steel guide rods, the quick change nozzles and higher print temp has me thinking i need a p2s. And that the ams pro has a dryer function now is pretty sweet.
But for the money, the upgrades from p1s to p2s still make p1s a very great option, especially you dont want to print nylon, pps, or other fancy filaments that actually need the higher temps, and for 550 for that and the multi color capacity of the ams... still a pretty great deal if you want something great without going broke @That Crusso Kid.

I print ASA and ABS mainly on my P1S, Centauri Carbon and Qidi 3 Max. Used to PLA was the go to for ease of printing. The new generation of enclosed printers make it a breeze.

I will say get the cryo build plate. It makes first layers perfect with ABS and ASA.

I print everything in PETG... It's kinda silly of me I suppose.

Ok... You convinced me. P1S ordered. It should be here at the end of December or first part of January.

Print with what you like and what suits your project. I print a lot of functional stuff like I designed my truck air cleaner. It’s printed in iron gray ASA and has held up all through a beastly Alabama summer.

I am definitely not a printer snob. 😁

I print probably eighty percent in PETG. I print a little PLA for model railroad stuff and PET-CF for stuff that needs extra stiffness. All of the filaments have their uses and for tank work PETG is one of the best in my opinion. I also use PETG for a lot of functional stuff that needs to be tough but can be slightly flexible. Since my printers are in the house, I avoid ASA and ABS and I didn't really have the right printer for nylon until the Centauri Carbon.

Yeah, I use PETG because I use most everything I print in or on my aquariums. I print a good amount of stuff for my wife's craft classes as well but I don't like swapping filament and having to redo the slicer so I just print hers in PETG as well.

Ok, one more update. ReefBreeders' sale on the meridian with free shipping, AND now it has 14k spectrum optimized LEDs (the 'shallow reef' model)... Couldn't resist any longer. Ordered another 11 inch for the other half of my tank. Going to get an upgraded replacement array in 14k too for my other one as soon as they are available.
Excited for you! I’m just getting into the Meridian game. Glad to see you liked it enough to buy a second.

Thank you for all the input, @Red_Beard , @tharbin , @dantimdad and @tbrown ! I do appreciate all of you.

I'll do some research, probably later tonight, and decide what I want to do.

Me too 😆 either aquarium parts or something that will be outdoors or in a car where pla would sag. The only stuff i print in pla any more is toys for the kids.
Havent tried asa yet though.

Sweet! I grabbed a Meridian 45 shallow reef myself.
