I had a Norwegian Elkhound for 17 years. She was my soulmate. She was with me from grade school to college. They are very independent. Enjoy yours.

My Norwegian Elkhound was in Cody Wyoming. Maybe yours is related.Up the snowy range just outside Laramie Wyoming. Lake Marie is behind me.
well they were trying to get me to euthanize him because he was not breathing well outside of the oxygen crate and he stopped urinating so they said he was end stage. I ended up bringing him home, took him to his favorite bush and he peed for me. He's been home a day and a half and he's doing better, not perfect, but a lot better. He still isn't eating on his own but he gets up and goes out the doggy door on his own, drinks water on his own too. I have been syringe feeding him ensure for nutrients. I think he will be fine after a week or so. Thanks for asking. I hope all is well with you! Still in Florida? How's he doing?
Don't let them talk you into euthanization, you'll know when it's time. We just went through something very similar. My little "best friend" (Bear, earlier post) suddenly stopped eating on June 26th, ate breakfast in the morning, refused dinner. Our regular vet that I went to (never to return to again) said "Well, he's old, time to put him down." NO! Old age just does not set in that quickly. Long story shortened, found a better vet who did an emergency surgery and removed a 8" x 4" tumor from his belly. My little guy that used to weigh 21 lbs now weighs 18 lbs. He went 6 days without eating but he slowly rallied back. Now he's eating practically non stop and wants to play fetch again. So yeah, don't give up unless YOU feel it's for the best. Best of luck.well they were trying to get me to euthanize him because he was not breathing well outside of the oxygen crate and he stopped urinating so they said he was end stage. Finally found another mastiff lover. Is it me or the Newfie look bigger than the others?
Edit, shouldn’t have said finally, there is a few others I met here
What did they diagnose him with, if anything? It wouldn't hurt to take him to another vet to get their opinion. Just a thought.well they were trying to get me to euthanize him because he was not breathing well outside of the oxygen crate and he stopped urinating so they said he was end stage. Oh yeah this hospital was the second place we went to already. Our main vet sent us there as her was not equipped to do much. pulmonary hypertension was all they said. They didn't know the cause. He is breathing now and doing well except he's still not eating. We go to another vet tomorrow. Even just some anti nausea medication. They did xrays so its not tumors or anything like that. I've been feeding him ensure through a syringe. Well "dogsure"What did they diagnose him with, if anything? It wouldn't hurt to take him to another vet to get their opinion. Just a thought.
All 8 pages and finally some one has another newfie!
Found her on a FB classified page. Someone had no idea what an elkhound was when they saw her at the Denver puppy store I imagine. I grew up with the little devils:)My Norwegian Elkhound was in Cody Wyoming. Maybe yours is related.
Awww she's a sweet girl! [emoji190]This is our iggy (Italian Greyhound), Naiyah. Probably the sweetest and most loyal dog I’ve ever had the pleasure of living with. My daughters see her as an older sister. She’s already 12 years old ...
