Hi All

I know the reef-pi lighting component is based purely in pwm control. Is there anyway that LED+ could be supported within reef Pi. A series
of scripts, cronjobs and lirc have been put together to get a raspberry pi to send ir commands throughout the day to the light’s receiver with our modification.

This solution can obviously be run parallel to reef-pi,but, having everything in a single interface would be nice.

I’m not sure how reef-pi could be expanded to make this generic and useful to a variety of other lights or uses. Some sort of scheduling system maybe that can shoot off a command. In this case lirc (ir command).

It is certainly possible to have some generic IR based integration support in reef-pi (using LIRC ), this is something I want to work, but not anytime soon, I am also not fixed on the possible use cases. I was more inclined to provide a IR remote for reef-pi, so that in case wifi is down (or not available), reef-pi can be controlled/configured using an IR remote. Using IR for controlling a light is definitely a good idea, but I really need some common ground around how this integration will work for any other devices. In particular, something related to reef tank (orbit marine ??). I do not have any issues with users using reef-pi for non reef tank use cases, but I have to think about integrating features that has virtually no benefits to reef tank/reef tank related equipment, as that will open a whole suite of features in future, which may bloat reef-pi, and become a burden for me to maintain.

Let me think about this, i.e. let me come up with a IR support first that can be customized by users, and see if that alone can help you control the LED..
Thank you for the feedback

I see the IR Control thing as another gadget that really has no true use. My Lights have ir capability but it has NEVER Been used.. All 5 of the remotes are still in there plastic. Lights are set and left alone . I see no reason to need to sit on the couch .. OHH WAIT We can sit on the couch and control our tank with reef-pi...

To the if the internet is down or no internet in the house.. Raspberry pi itself can create a hot spot or its own network , This would solve the no network thing ...

I was talking about situation where you have setup pi to connect to home WiFi, but for some reason it’s not accessible viaduct to wireless hiccups .. as emergency measure . Currently I use a mechanical push button to restart the network for such scenarios

My first gadget is ATO, not attached to a reef-pi yet but in the future for monitoring hopefully it will be, this is a twin float so if the first float get stuck the second will cut the pump

on 2.0.0-beta-3's dashboard the temperature chart doesn't load for me. Going to temperature tab will load the chart but it goes away again if i reload the page

You might need to go into dashboard settings .. Remove the temp dashboard , reload reef-pi refresh browser then put them back... If that does not work resetting the database in the troubleshooting guide might be needed...

Go to Configuration -> Dashboard
And update the dashboard config. Make sure you select the write temperature probe from drop down when you select tc (temperature controller usage, i.e. heater & cooler + average hourly temperature) or temperature (latest 180 values of the sensor). If you have already done, that, then something else is wrong, share the screen shot of your dashboard configuration in that case

Set 2 row and 2 column layout. And then click the tc/temperature dropdown. Each cell in the layout (row x column) can have a chart type (tc, ato, temperature) and a specific id for the chart (like temp sensor name or ato name etc) . You dont need to delete or restart anything. Just configure, hit "save" and go to dashboard tab, and things should work

@Ranjib thanks I tried reconfiguring the dashboard but still same issue. Could it be something with 2.0.0-beta-3 update. Wondering if anyone who recently updated is having this issue or if it’s just something in my system

Not having this issue , I did the update earlier today...

Can you post a photo of your dashboard config, and your temperature tab?

I have issues with my temperature graph displaying on the dashboard for beta 3 too. If I refresh my reefpi page in my browser, temp graph is missing. If I go to the temp tab then back to the dashboard, it appears...

Thanks for thinking about it.
I can certainly understand not wanting to bloat it up.
This why I was looking to at a solution which was as generic as possible and leverage off modules/components that already exist. I don’t know whether a scheduler component that can send any command for ‘other connected’ devices. I’m thinking Ethernet/wifi, ir etc.

In terms of ir control for reef-Pi for internet down: Researching over the past few I found that adding lirc support wouldn’t be difficult and there are already many hardware options for Pi/Arduino that would add the functionality with minimal trouble.

As always it’s your time and work to integrate this software side that will make this difficult.
