FTS 6/29/19

Current Equipment List:
Nuvo 30L with custom stand
MP10-QD
Kessil A350 x2
Aquamaxx HOB 1.5
Apex Classic
Avast ATO w/ diaphragm pump
Innovative Marine Custom Media Caddy
InTank filter floss holder
InTank Fuge
LEDNET Led Bar fuge light

After much back and forth my new tank has been selected. The Innovative Marine Nuvo Fusion 30l. After a major tank wipe out in my 90g, it was downsize or leave the hobby. I started saltwater with a 10g nano back in college so I suppose this is getting back to my roots.

Picked up this tank locally with custom stand for $150. I'm going to run 2 Kessil A350w on goosenecks for lighting. Considering Aquamaxx 1.5 or Tunze 9004 for a skimmer. Still in the market for a powerhead.

This will be a softie tank pretty much. With so many difficulties in the hobby over the years I just want something simple and easy. My large toadstool and btas will be coming with. I plan on growing a lot of GSP and mushrooms as well.

Stocking wise I want to do 2 clowns, a cherub angel and a blenny or wrasse. A cleaner shrimp would be nice as well.

Going to try bare bottom for the first time.

I did notice a small chip on the top back right corner of the tank but I'm not sure if it's a big deal. Lmk what you think.

I am waiting on a new leveling mat to come in. The original was damaged during transport.

I am cycling lr in my qt (JBJ Nanocube 24). I am going to get the Nuvo set up and cycled, then transfer the contents of my 90 to the 30. From there I will let the tank settle down for a few weeks and then we move into our new house. That time will let me part out the old 90.

Nice deal on the 30L and nice to get a custom stand. FWIW, a cut up yoga mat also makes a nice leveling mat.

The stand is a 2x4 frame with solid wood finishing. I just need to put a shelf in and figure out how I'm going to mount my Apex and store my ATO container in there.

I've got offers for a Aquamaxx HOB 1.5 for $100 and a MP10QD for $150 today. Might use up most of my left over this budget and finish the equipment part of the this build.

Do you think 1 mp10 will be enough flow?

I want to give some context to this build. About 4 months ago I had a full tank wipe out due to ich/velvet in my 90g. The tank has run fishless since. I have a small collection of soft corals in there and my nems. After a bad looking tank with lots of deaths I have been considering leaving the hobby. I had been saving up to upgrade to a 120g tank but the work and cost involved was just too great. I decided if I was going to stay in hobby I would have to downsize, not upsize.

All of this comes as we are closing on our first house. My current plan is to migrate all the corals over from the 90g to the Nuvo 30l in our current rental and let it settle for a few weeks. This will give the corals a chance to adjust to the new set up. That will give me time to part out the 90g so I dont have to move it. Then I am going to move the Nuvo 30l into the new house. I figured it would be less stress to move the tank after its been set up than transfer tanks while moving (less stress for me and the corals).

Welcome to the 30L club! Following ;-)

Just read through your build thread and its looking great!

Right now I am just trying to figure out if I want the rocks to go directly on the glass or if I want to put down some abs or something.

thanks!

are you going bare bottom? for most of my rock structures I'll be using parts of PVC pipe and maybe some egg crate to elevate them.

I am going bare bottom at least to start. I'm hoping it will be lower maintenance.

Took a few more pics of what I have so far. You can see the stands overbuilt construction from the back. I need to figure out how I'm going to organize the inside. I want to mount my Apex and powerstrips. Place my ATO container in there too if I can. It would be nice to have a shelf for storage as well.

I have one media caddy and one stock one.

Never seen this brand lump before. Is it the stock pump?

Going to go pick up a Aquamaxx HOB 1.5 and MP10QD tomorrow. With that I'll have all the major equipment sorted out for the tank. My new leveling mat gets here next and then I'll move the precycled rock into the Nuvo. Might let the tank stabilize and then start the transfer from the 90g.

I am already acclimating the corals in my 90g to the new lights. I was running a Tek T5 6 bulb fixture with SBar actinic led accent before.

Is that the pump for the return? If so, it's not the stock pump. The 30L AIO (and I think most IM AIO tanks) comes with a mighty jet DC pump.

The newer pro versions come with the mighty jet the older tanks have a stock pump that looks similar to the one he pictures except the few i have had have a innovative marine sticker on it. I would send innovative a email with a pic of it and ask if they ever sent that type of pump out with them. you can pick up a nice replacement for 50-60 bucks i have a sicce2.0 in my nuvo40 tight squeeze but you can get it in

Ah good to know. I bought my tank second hand so I assumed that mine was already "older" [emoji28]

How do you run your sicce? Do you find you have to dial the flow back?

I wonder if the smallest sicce SDC pump would fit in there...

This is the return pump that came with the tank secondhand. I am considering just replacing it if it is going to be noisy. I dont think the Sicce 2 will fit so I am not sure what pump to upgrade to. Any advice on what return pump to get would be appreciated.

Maybe the Sicce 1.5 would work? Not sure if that is enough flow or not though.

in my 38 i ran it fully open and it added more flow and ran super smooth and it was much quieter then the stock pump. I just had to set up my 40 because the 38 cracked and the sump portion is set up different i had the stock pump in and my water level was changing a lot messing up my ATO so i put the sicce in and having the same issue the water level will change 1-1.5 inches and turn on my ATO and then when it levels back out it throws my high water level sensor i've had the tank set up for only 4 days so i am trying to figure it out i have a email sent to innovative marine to see if they have any idea what is causing the water level to change all on its own like that. i have tried dialing the sicce down thinking it was pumping water out faster then then it was returning back to the sump portion still no luck
