Replacing Trident reagents

Still working through my starter bottles......at what point do you replace the reagents? I assume you don't want them to completely run out before replacement or does the Trident just report that they need to be changed before the next scheduled test?

I simply got a message that "Reagent A Is Empty" (or B, C)

I now periodically check the levels through the interface to anticipate when they'll be empty.

So are you just trying to catch them and replace when there is a couple of tests remaining? What happens if it runs out during a test, and you are having the Trident control your doser?

Click the to the panel to show the graphs, then click the top 3rd of the panel over the Alk, CA, Mh readings again and the graphs will change to a visual display of how much reagent is left in each. Click a 3rd time and it shows waste level and tests remaining.

Thanks for the response.....I understand that part.....just wasn't sure when to actually swap out the reagent bottles. Do I wait until the Apex says there is 1 test remaining? What happens if I lose track and it runs out and fails during a test...does that failed test affect my dosing at all? I assume it doesn't...just wanted to verify.

Change it when it tells you to or whenever is best for you. I had about 10 tests remaining and I had to change earlier because I was going on vacation. I don't think it will fail during a test. I believe it will give a message to change before trying to run a test on empty. Whenever I change Reagents there is always some left in the bottle and I believe for this very reason.

It won't actually run out of reagent. It will give you the message that it is empty and stop testing but there will still be reagent in the bottle. So you don't have to worry about running out mid test.

Trident will alert you when the reagent bottles get close to empty. I’m on my fifth set of reagents and the alerts are pretty accurate. Neptune says not to save/reuse any reagent. Seems prudent as reagents can drift as they age.

Thanks. What I thought but also figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Now, if I could just find a Trident to buy lol! Honestly thought they'd be easier to come by at this point.

When it came time to do the first change for Alk at a month I just got a red message like above that said Reagent A Empty. I didn't see any alerts. And when I got to 2 months I just got a red message that said Reagent C Empty. I didn't see anything that allowed me to setup a message for when they are close.

Yep now just hoping of a Trident 2.0 that tests Nitrates, Phosphates, and Something else like Iodine, Strontium, Potassium......

‘If ERROR Trident_xx_3 Then ON’ will send you an alert when the reagents are empty where xx is the aquabus address of your trident. Reagents aren’t actually completely empty at that point, just close.

I’m a bit confused .I'm on my first set of reagents . A is on 20% B and C 50% if you use 2 bottles of A to one B and C then surly you should change A out now and yet I been told to leave it till it runs out is this correct as I am under the impression that when B and C run out you Change all 3 to new batch

I check my dashboard a few times a day and just change them if the error shows up. Missing a 1/2 day worth of tests isn’t too concerning to me.

That is correct. I end up with quite a lot of A left over from the two bottles once B and C report 'empty'. I'm actually thinking about running alk a bit more often so that the reagent usage better balances. Perhaps others can chime in, but I think the amount of A used is a function of the alk levels you keep. since trident is a titration unit, lower alk will (I think) use less reagent over time than will higher alk. I run my system at about 7.5 dkh.

That's a solid idea. I may have to think about that too. I've only just recently started my second box of reagents but if this next round leaves as much Alk solution I might give that a try. I try to keep my alk around 8.6

In the tasks in fusion the options are "reagent A replacement" since that one gets changed more frequently, or "Reagent replacement" which guides you through replacing all 3.
