Hey guys quick update and seeking advice.

Tank is coming along well. Currently housing a pair of clowns, a pulsing Xenia, hermits, snails, emerald crab.

The advice I seek is two things I have hygger eco dc pumps (controller pictured)

At full power they are 1600gph I know a lot for a 32g cube. I need help with placement where I get optimal flow. It seems where ever I place them the Xenia gets to much and gets mad.


Secondly when I bought my cuc from my LFS it came with a copepod seeded sponge as the LFS said. I was told just place it in the back of the tank and let it be for 24 hrs. Now the second chamber of my biocube holds my rack that’s just got polyfil and some phosgaurd on it and my skimmer I was able to fit an icecap bio plate in there

I put the “seeded” sponge under it to sorta help things move into it per say now it’s right next to my skimmer, (sicce shark 150) if I turn the skimmer back on do you think it would have a adverse effect on the ice cap plate should there be any microscopic life on/in it?

The skimmer shouldn't impact the 'pods on the seeded sponge. It will likely damage or kill a few, but many, many more will slip right through and into the display tank no problem.

As far as the circ pumps, I'm not familiar with that particular pump. I would encourage you to post these kinds of questions to the general or equipment sub-forums, you'll get a lot more eyes on your question in those forums

You may have to get a smaller circulation pump if you feel the current one is too strong. Have you turned it down all the way?
Xenia are very resilient, I wouldn't worry about damaging it.

Bristle worms

It appears I have a very booming population of them in my tank in various sizes. Can too many of them pose a danger to any of the inhabitants or are there any risks to them if the population gets to great

So found the same 65g tank as i originally started with on marketplace for free so I’m working on getting it plumbed now.

It has a herbie style overflow. This is my first time doing any type of hard plumbing for a tank. It’s 1” bulkheads with 1” drains and 1” return. My question is does it look like I set the drains up properly?

So after some research and reading I e decided I’m going to build at ATS that drains right back into the sump. I wanted to do a fuge but with my sump being so compact and small I don’t have the space to allow for one right now so ATS is the route I’m going to try for now till I upgrade my sump to a maybe 30-40g diy sump sometime down the road. What is everyone’s thoughts on ATS?

I think most feel they are very effective at exporting nutrients, perhaps even more effective than a lighted Cheato 'fuge. If you're looking to DIY one, I'm sure there's some good 3D printed versions out there. I'd check here to see if anyone is making them:

@Imrahilwjz built one from a PVC pipe and some of the plastic mesh if I recall correctly.

I've printed 3 or 4 different models I designed - the best was a "stair-step" one that worked as a drop-in replacement for a filter sock in my sump. Currently I'm running a hang-on chamber for bubble algae (I'm a pioneer in the field!) with a stair step coming off the weirs that grows GHA. It's a little too good as I have to clean the weirs and the stairs every 2-3 days and I've removed several large clumps of bubble algae.

So I’m going with just a basic waterfall style. I have a small pump that’s just sitting around that. I’m just going to place in the sump and use half inch PVC have the pump run water up and over and down. The netting and see how well that works. I think I might look for a sealed black box or something like that just to help with some of the light spread and sort of center it but we shall see. I’m excited to see how it comes out.

Yes. They're a great part of the CUC, but in high enough numbers they can start irritating corals (and your eyes?).

Sadly I don’t. Been debating on buying one but I haven’t the slightest idea how to work one and they seem to be very confusing to me lol
