Does my Golden Rhomboid have swim bladder issues. He was doing great up until yesterday. He has been in my display for a week....

That looks like a possible spinal injury and if you watch you’ll notice the decreased use of the tail for swimming and that’s why they swim head up. There really isn’t a treatment for it other than possibly Epsom salts for swelling and time. I had a Fairy Wrasse that jumped and hit the lid and had the same thing, he sadly was euthanized a week later.

Any chance that he can come around?

Yes a small percentage do but most slowly wither away and die. I euthanized mine after he starting just getting blown around would lay on the bottom from exhaustion. Don’t give up just keep an eye on him and you’ll know soon if he’ll turn the corner.

He eat well today, and he just went into his normal cave to bed down and cocoon.

That’s a good sign. Like I said you’ll know shortly. He will either get stronger and you’ll see him starting to use his tail or he’ll go completely head up all the time, exhaust himself, and get blown around and eventually stop eating. Crossing my fingers for you.

Sadly the fish is now swimming around vertically. :( He did eat this morning, but as the day goes on, his swimming is getting worse and worse.

Sorry. I have one in quarantine right now so I’m feeling your pain.

Unfortunately that is typically the end result for this injury. It is up to you if you want to euthanize it or wait until he is no longer eating. I would say he probably will not recover at this point. I’m sorry.

Mine swims this way often throughout the day, it seems intentional. He can chose to go back into normal swimming function but he likes to hover vertical as if he is looking up. Eats extremely well, well colored, and I've had him about 8 months.
