Is anybody getting priced out of the hobby do to fish stores ripping us off?

There is one thing that you have to understand about a LFS. They have to pay for the building and have to pay money to make their store look presentable. They also have to pay for extra employees that can help customers out and take care of tanks. And employees that have the top knowledge don't come cheap. Also the thing is if you buy from a LFS you see what you are exactly getting unlike sometimes online you buy a wysiwyg and find out it's photoshopped to hell. Or if you buy a fish local you can inspect it for parsites and etc. and you can usually tell if it is healthy or not.

Some online stores work out of their garage or basement. Usually they work by themselves and there are no employees. They also don't have to have a presentable store because they work from their website. Usually online stores work off a 10% profit margin. If a brick and mortar store sold off a 10% margin they would go out of business.

Sometimes you get that store that overcharges on everything.

If you stop supporting your local stores they will go out of bussiness.

I work in a store same empolyees same rent same price that thay buy fish, coral, dry goods for but price still being double do to greed.

That is what sets good stores away from greedy stores.
We have a few greedy stores as our competition and we like them because they make our prices look better.

Greedy stores are a whole different story.

I agree that prices shouldn't of doubled in the past 3 months. I don't think inflation is that bad right now.

McDonalds raised their prices on their menu from a $2.50 large milkshake to $3.50 now. In the last 2 months.

My LFS knows how I shop and that they can bairly compete with internet pricing. Recently they have dropped all prices to get the few local reefers back in the doors. I think his guy should take a month and see what R2R is about and come back.
