Hello all,

I have recently (attempted) to set up a never used RODI system I received from a friend.. he did not pass on the destructions, so I figured it's nothing the forum can't answer.

I am very confident I got the red hose correct, but I was always told black is waste line. The issue is I currently read that some units yellow is the waste line. Also I have what I think is a flush valve, that I play with. What is this for?

I will say that the black line is flowing! Where as the yellow line trickles..

Thanks in advance!

-jay

The order is is flow pattern.

I'm no RO/DI expert as I just received my first one but from what I've read, if you run 100 gallons through your RO/DI system, 75 gallons of that will be waste and 25 will be your freshwater. If you're saying the yellow line is trickling, that should be your filtered water and the black will be waste. Hopefully the experts here will chime in on this

Thanks for the quick response!

I think you are correct. I didn't know THAT was the ratio though.. geez.

Here is a response from the BRS team when they were asked what the ratio was:

Great question! This unit will produce roughly 4 gallons of waste water for every 1 gallon of product water collected when running at 65PSI.

So what about the valve on my black line.. I've seen it called a flush valve, but how do I utilize it correctly?

This is from MarineDepot.com:

Significantly enhance the life of RO membranes and reduce membrane cleaning requirements. The flush valve kit is placed between the membrane reject port and the flow restrictor and provides a high flow bypass to purge concentrated brine from the membrane housing and rapidly flush any particulate from the membrane surface. The flushing is best done just before the RO system is shut down by opening the FVK valve for 15–30 seconds and then turning the feed water source off.

I guess my last question would be, without a flow regulator, how do i know if I'm u using too much pressure. As in, should I run faucet wide open, half way. Any recommendations?

If it's not operated in the recommended psi range, it's not going to be efficient. get a pressure gauge to measure the psi.
