Hello, I got a 34gal with a couple pf clown fish and a royal gramma, for almost a year. All parameters are stable. About a month ago the royal gramma started to remain in his caves all the time, just reached out for food, i assumed he got picked by the clowns. 7days ago he rushed out of his cave and started swimming tightly all over the rocks and sand, then swimming erratically, stoped eating and now just floating at the surface facing up, switched him to the qt, but I don’t see any sign of desease. I had a couple of fireworms 3 weeks ago, but took them out, I checked on his caves, in case one of them got him, but couldn’t find any other worm. Any idea what I can do?

Welcome to R2R!
Moving Pictures Hello GIF

Can you post pictures of the fish so we can see if there are wounds or signs of an infection or anything. Also post your parameters. Are the clowns acting and seem fine?

Hmmm, that is unusual. l guessing the constant stress of the clowns may have played a part. Royal Gramma are hardy fish normally. Bristle worms would only go after a already compromised fish.

Please post a video of this behavior under white light intensity. These fish are easily intimidated (tankmates) and also susceptible to flukes.
Is fish breathing normal or elevated rate?

Maybe after dark, or when your absent, the clown beat the crap out of the Gramma?

Maybe your clowns were going to breed and they needed that Gramma, out of the area, or tank? So one killed him? Or almost killed him?

Anyways…Welcome to R2R!
You can pull him and put him in a separate tank for now.
