Running bio-pellets passively?

OK reefers, got a question, I am wondering if I can run Bio-pellets passively, as in the way I run my carbon, just toss it in a pantyhose foot and toss it in my baffles. Or do the pellets need to be tumbled? Any info would be helpful.

They need to be tumbling in a reactor, with the effluent placed near, or into the intake of your skimmer.
