Thought I would start a tank build as I set up our new 180. After we moved into our newly purchased home we have only set up our 28g in our bedroom. It houses all our corals and a few smaller fish. In the basement I have been keeping my live rock in a 55 with a few larger fish.

We found a 180 with tank and stand locally with a bunch of other stuff included. It is 5 years old but never set up.

Currently working on the inside pipes for bean animal system. Tonight I cut notches in the over flows and connected them with a weir. Pictures to follow.

So my local glass shop didn't have black plexi or abs so I came up with an idea. I hope it works out. I painted one side of the plexi with krylon fusion and let it dry for a day. Then sandwiched the painted side with another piece of plexi using weld on #4. I then attached another plexi to form the angle. Photos show this plus the notches cut in over flows and the weir in its final position.

The weld on kinda messed up the paint where it smooshed over when sandwiched. But this was a first attempt and it will eventually cover with coraline.

Decided not to paint but to use a vinyl background from fosters and smith. It was just like a piece of vinyl for your car. Went on smoothly and with no bubbles. I am very pleased with the product. We will see after the tank is set up and running.

From my previous 75g I have kept all my rock in a 55g packed to the top.

So I decided to go with all dry rock for this 180 to start and then quarentine some cherry picked pieces of my current live rock to seed the tank. This way I can make sure I have no aptasia and vermited snails.

I placed my order with BRS on Sunday night. They are nlocated in MN I think. I got my order on Tuesday at noon. Very fast free shipping.

I ordered some uniseals for my water mixing station and a 1 inch gate valve. As well as 75lbs of pukani rock. They came in 3 boxes. The rock was in 2 boxes. One 28lbs and one 58lbs. This is what I got. Very nice large pieces. I told them my plan was for 3 mounds in a 180. Pic to follow

How do I go about cleaning this. Should I try to rinse it well with a spray nossel and then dip in bleach, or murratic acid. Or is there another way to clean dirt off and maybe remove any dried phosphates?

I received 2 med pieces maybe the size of a basketball if put together. 3 large\very large rocks and one super huge rock. The largest one which is on the blue towel was the only rock in the 28lbs box

Finished up the inner plumbing tonight. Spring break for kids so haven't gotten much done this week. Open channel and return on one side and syphon and emergency on other. I tried something to get to use both return areas but only plumb one. So I T'd off the 1 in return to 2 - 3\4 and then ball valved them and ran pvc along the top under canopy to other side. Hope it work as planned.

think this will be our aquascape. The far left is 2 rock to form a large cave. Center is the larges rock I cut it in half. Far right is one rock standing on end making a small cave on bottom. 2 smaller pieces up front to hadd some depth of field. Might move them around.

Picked up 3 of these at fosters this week. Plan to place them tonight or tomorrow. Anyone have mp40 on the back wall of there tanks.

I have 1 plus the 3 I ordered. Plan to use all if needed.

But don't know where to place them.

Like maybe 2 high and 2 low between the 3 rock mounds.
And then not sure what mode to use and which to have sync and anti sync.

Like have the left ones sync and right anti
or top sync and bottom anti

Any ideas would be welcome. Also is there anything I could use to see the flow. I was planning on setting them up real low setting in maybe a 40b to test flow. Would fish flakes or any other particles work to help see flow and suspention?

Looks like the tank is coming along great. Could you send me a link to the vinyl background, I cant seem to find it on the site and am interested in using it for my build. Thanks.

are you opposed to putting any on the sides ? If your going on the back id do what you have planned. But try to alternate the flow from one set to the other.

Yes I don't want any on the side. Ecotech says 4 will be overkills and I would have them turned down to 20percent. I disagree. I will try 4 and if its over kill I can always remove one.
