A few weeks ago, I started noticing my SPS corals peeling. They were having white stuff come off of them that looked like skin peeling off. After doing a lot of searching online, I found someone who had a similar experience and noticed copper in their tank, and it was from a busted magnet. I searched everything and finally found that one of my magnetic frag racks had a crack and of course, a rusted magnet. I tested my tank with the Hanna copper checker and it was .1. I did a 10% WC and added Chem Pure Elite on Wednesday, 6/4, of last week. The total water volume is approximately 70g. I am going out of town for a week starting next Tuesday and I'm worried about my corals. I will be doing another 10% WC on 6/11 and on 6/16 before I leave. I was wondering how long it might take to get the copper out of the tank or if anyone has had this experience? It still seems that the SPS are peeling. My Zoas and LPS look pretty normal, but my nutrients already run low, so I spot fed reef roids today.

Not trying to hijack this post, but i didn't want to post a similar issue. Over the last month or so I noticed my lps, such as euphillia, chalice, and others slowly receding. I tested and noticed alkalinity was very low, almost 5dkh. I started with water changes and soda ash/kalk to bring up alk slowly. With each water change I thought things looked better, but it continued just slower. I began looking for another issue and found a neodymium magnet fell into my sump and began rusting. I noticed this magnet missing from the wall about 2 months ago and assume ist been in there for that long. This is a 300 gallon system. Well now my nutrients are low and I can't do a big water change right now, or i risk.getting dinos. Ill be getting cuprisorb soon as I can. Is this my only option until I can bring nutrients up.
