About two to three weeks ago, my JF Bonsai started to STN from the middle of the colony. I cut it off and trimmed the dead pieces and glued the rest back in place. It has continues to lose tissue for a few weeks. It's still showing great PE. Yesterday I noticed my PC Rainbow colony is doing the same thing.
Tonight I ran a bunch of tests to see what's up. Much to my surprise, my nitrates were at at least 25! I never check them because I figure that my bio pellets keep them in check. PO4 is keeping up too, but not crazy. Colors are all good on most of my corals.
Do you guys think the nitrates are causing the STN? Wouldn't I see poor coloration before STN?
What would you do? Water change? (I'm going to do one tomorrow). Add more bio pellets? I have been feeding quite a bit because honestly, with the bio pellets, I've always worries about too little nutrients, not too much.
