I wanna start dosing nitrate and phos but i dont really know where to start in terms of amount to dose especially brightwells formula supposedly isnt 100% accurate
@billyocean walked me through it but I'm dosing NeoPhos at 5ml per day for approximately 100 gallons total water volume. I have a high bioload with a decent amount of corals. Don't dose too much but I was dosing 10 ml per day until I got detectable phosphates and then stopped for 4 days to see what my average daily consumption is. Now I test periodically to make sure nothing has changed. I'm running between 0.05 and 0.1. Nitrates I run around 50 without dosing.

I'd say your phosphates are about where I keep mine. What's your alk, mag, and calcium?

I keep my alk high its in the 10-11DKH range this is due to me using coral pro salt. im thinking of switching to a different one without elevated levels soon because i can see where things can go wrong. my Calcium is about 480 and MG is in the 1400s

I have a smaller 32 gallon and just started dosing brightwell nitrates since I had zero detectable forever despite 6 fish. I do 5ml a day right now to just keep it level at about 9 (checking with Hanna). I'm kind of afraid to increase it more, but people seem to be running higher with out issues.

Also waking up is this stomatella hitchhiker from SBB. I've gotten two so far from two separate SBB sales and I really hope they reproduce. They don't sell them anywhere down by me. Eventually I think I will do a reef cleaners order to diversify my CUC.

I got my bonus from work today and I think they double paid me, now I get to contact hr and get them to take it back.

That's way too tempting to have all that extra money that's not mine sitting in my account with this sale coming up lol

I run 30+ but I have a bunch of SBB shrooms and Gonis which seems to like nitrates. Everything really started looking happier when I started adding some phos in the mix. Couldn't keep Acros prior to that.

Pump the nitrate up with the alk that high. It will burn sps tips

You can always premix saltwater and add some muriatic acid and bubble it good to stabilize the pH.

I now mix my water, test Alk, and add Muriatic acid to bring it down to 8.3 after losing 3 of my Acros. 10.2 alk and low nutrients wasn't good to my sticks.

Just to clarify, you're saying he needs to bump up the Nitrates, right?
I think so. I run my alk much lower at 7.5 since everyone always mentions burnt tips with higher alk. I've also run TM Pro salt since I started the tank which is around 8 alk.

Is that the key to higher nitrates @billyocean , run higher alk?

I run at 8ish dkh..phos around .06 but varies..I dose 24 ml per day on a doser. Every day or two i dose about 20-30 ml of nitrate. Even though my phos reads different there's 2 ml dosed every 2 hours so it's never zero

And you run heavy SPS.
