just got my first scoly last friday...temp aclimated it for a hour or so (flaoting it)..then put in bottom of my tank almost under a 250w MH..(tank 180 6' tank)...the first few nights it was doing great eating and look healthy.. the past few days it seem to be irritated so two days ago i moved it into a lightly shaded area...last night it looked still rather stressed and was closed up this morning not eating...

wondering what the heck could be going on....???

bought scoly locally so not much stress from transport...alos ate the first 2-3 nights in my tank ( i did dose food with Viatman C and Britewell restor)...

calcium 440 mag 1350 alk 8.9 ph 8.1-8.3...

Any tips of advice would be great as im new to scolys..PLEASE HELP!!!

What kind of fish do you have emoney? I had the same problem with my scoly I bought. My parameters were very similar to yours. I finally found out the culprit was our 2 hippo tangs who had developed a taste for lps and when I wasn't looking would pick at it and the acans. Now that we finally have them out of the tank the scoly is puffed up as well as the acans.

5 tangs...yellow belly hippo, shoal, yellow, black, And powder brown...also mystery wrasse 2 clowns2 blennys and pair of helfichi's..haven't seen any of them nip at any of my lps.or any corals for that matter..hope that's not the case as I love my fish and corals

Could a shrimp or hermits irritate them?

I don't think it would be the shrimp. They do try to steal the food when I'm feeding them but retreat to their spots. I never saw the tangs nip at the scoly but I already suspected they were nipping at my acans. I suspected them for the scoly because I took it back to the owner of my LFS to nurse back to health (have a great relationship. He didn't charge me). On the trip over it was opened up in the container so I knew for sure it wasn't the water params.

Do you have another tank you could move it in (or am I the only crazy one with 4 tanks lol) to see if it opens up? If it starts openining up right away and you have similar parameters then you know it's probably someone in the tank pecking at it.

I had a small toby in my solana that I suspected was nipping even though it was well fed because the acans had all retracted and a few days after I moved him into my nano they puffed up again.
