I saw that one earlier. Sure would suck to come up after a wonderful day of scuba to see nothing but open water... I can see a lawsuit in the future and a closed up scuba guide business.
This has always been in the back of my head for a while especially with small dive outfits that bring lots of people out.
I love the sensationalizing going on in this article though, shark infested waters. Sharks are getting pretty rare in Florida. I have only seen one nurse shark in all my dive or snorkel trips.
Didn't Rev post an article about this happening a month or so ago on the great barrier reef? Sounds like these dive operators need to learn how to count!
Happened to my sister in Cozamel. Apparently the people decided to go get their "other" boat while the divers were down. They surfaced, and no boat, no where.
I worked for a similar operation in hawaii, i'm not sure how long ago it happened but they left a few people behind in a bay. They were sued and the company went under. It's every crew members job to count (even the deck hand) Wish they made professionals only run these "Dive Excursions"
