as I am in the process of setting this QT tank back up for a new fish arrival on Friday. couple questions on this.
in the past, I have always set up a QT tank with a bio wheel filtration unit. I have the bio-wheel in place and then I would stuff some pillow floss inside the housing to help with filtration. I rinse the floss out every day or two to avoid any chance of ammonia build up. I'm questioning the process. is there a real reason for the floss, if I have a bio wheel in place? currently I have the bio-wheel floating in my sump where it stays until its needed in the QT.
I also place a couple of PVC pipes in the QT for hiding spots for the fish. only thing I don't like about that. is that they roll around. I have to place egg crate on the bottom to keep the pipes in place. always worried the fish will get pinned in between. Not sure what else to do there. shot of placing rock in the tank instead of pipes. I guess I could. It would only be a couple pieces. thoughts on the rock vs pipes?
this QT does not stay up and running full time. its on an as needed basis. then it gets shut down, cleaned and put to rest until its needed again.
