I’ve recently bought a 12 gallon shallow tide nano aquarium with the dimensions of 22 inches wide, 20 inches long and 7 inches high.

I just wanted to know if there were any species that you think could potentially do well in this tank that maybe wouldn’t do well in a traditional nano cube because of the added swim space.

I have a clownfish from a previous to that is going in it but other than that, nothing is set in stone. Do you think it would be possible do have something like a Pygmy flame back angelfish?

Or do you have any other suggestions for a unique fish to go in a nano lagoon tank?

I wouldn’t do an angel in there. There are some small gobies. Possibly a chalk bass.
Post a picture of the tank!

I ordered it late last week so haven’t gotten it yet.

The only reason I brought it a dwarf angelfish is because the combination of length and width is probably more than a standard 29 gallon, which I feel is considered as the minimum for one.

Obviously you lose the height but dwarf angelfish definitely tend to hang around the rock work more anyways.

Even if it had a larger footprint than a typical nano, that 7 inches is VERY limiting and a dwarf angel is NOT okay for that tank.

With water and sand, that’s around 5 inches of swim space. With rocks, that’s 2-3 inches of water column at some places. That’s not okay for any swimming fish.

I wouldn’t stick to gobies and bottom dwelling fish

That makes sense, I just thought I would see if other people had tried and had success before.

Thank you

Not sure which angel exactly you're talking about, there are Flamebacks and Pygmy Cherubs, both in the genus centropyge, and both unsuited for a tank this small. That being said, there are plenty of nano fish suitable for a tank this small. Elactinus gobies, shrimp-goby pairs, and firefish would all be suitable for this tank.
