I got this shaving brush about 1 month ago and it's been growing well. I noticed these weird new little stalks coming out of my sand bed close by. I'm wondering are these new shaving brushes from an underground root system?

Caulerpa Prolifers has a root system that absorbs inorganic nitrates before ammonia.

Is that a good thing? As an update these things are growing freakishly fast. Should I just let them keep growing and spreading? Trying to get rid of hair algae

I know of nothing that will out compete gha. Get more janitors in the CUC.

What are your nutrient parameters?

If it is growing freakishly fast, I doubt it is shaving brush macro.

Out of my own curiosity I did a Google inquiry on growth potential and found in certain conditions with high lighting it can grow several inches a day. It’s quite possible that the new growth is shaving brush as it looks like comparative photos of it. I’ll vote that it’s probably the thing.

That would be something to return to after a vacation.

I have to say that AI answer seems unfounded to me. Ignoring the fact that I have never, ever heard of anyone having a shaving brush macro grow a few inches in a day, How can something that starts typically at 3" and maxes out at 4-7" grow a few inches per day? It grows for 1 day then never gain? 2 days from seed to old age? Seems ridiculous to me.

Well as an update I now have 3 new shaving bushes (4 total). They seem to grow pretty fast considering. Not an inch a day but probably like 0.2 inches or something a day in my little tank. Pretty cool. They seem kind of like coral where once they are getting enough light they stop growing up. One of them sprouted in a dark area and it's much taller then the ones in direct light.

That's good news. I have one coming later this week. I hope it thrives. :)
