Shocked by Grounding Probe

I’m experiencing an issue when I connect the grounding probe to the outlet and touch the water barfoot. Surprisingly, the water shocks me, and there’s no GFCI trip or anything.

However, when I unplug the grounding probe and touch the water, I don’t feel anything.

I’m curious to know why I only get shocked when the grounding probe is connected?

To investigate further, I used a voltmeter to measure the voltage, and it jumps around 4 volts, reaching up to 6 volts when the ATO is measuring water with the grounding probe not connected to the aquarium.

I’ve also tested the outlet Nutral to Ground, and it reads 0 volts.


Breakers are Arc Fault

What are you standing on? Dry floor? Concrete? Carpet?

How is the outlet grounded? Good copper all the way from the green screw on the outlet to the breaker box? Is the breaker box ground bar connected to earth thru you copper main water supply it another means?

There must be a voltage differential between what you are standing on and the ground in your outlet. It should be measurable.

You have a high resistance or faulty ground
