After a couple years of neglect my wife has convinced me to put effort back into maintaining my BioCube 29.

We went to a newish LFS to check them out and we decided to pick up a purple pincushion urchin. Now I’ve handle most of the common clean up crew inverts without any sort of reaction but today when I tried to pick up that urchin from his acclimation container to place him in my tank it felt like I was getting zapped 110V AC.

Has anyone experienced that sensation before??

PS: zero electrical objects in the bowl I was acclimating him in.

I think you got zapped from loose electrical current, not from the sea urchin. They certainly can prick you, which is their defense mechanism.

I agree with Orion. I have several pincushions including a purple one and I move them back and forth between tanks often and have never experienced this. I'm thinking maybe an urchin prick then electricity hit into the injury. Stray voltage has always made me aware of any small scratches I have.
