I was planning on using lava rock for filtration and to host the beneficial bacteria. I am a newbie to SW, but I have a healthy African Cichlid 55g tank. I purchased a 0.5 cu ft bag (Good size bag) @ Wal-mart for $6.97. I will rinse and eventually add to the sump and filters. I will also have bio-bals, ceramic discs and other filter media. It's more than enough lava rock for my upcoming 75g. Lifetime spply for < $7.
