Im trying to get inspired here for my possible move in the future and want to see some epic sump build outs!

Now is your time! Stop hiding what is under the hood and show off those sumps you got hiding away! Seeing what runs the tank is almost half the fun!

SHOW OFF TIME!!!!!

I separated my bio filter and my mechanical filter.

60G eurofil sump, 20G clear for life refugium.. the DT is 100G.... I kept it simple and easy to manage for whatever maintenance I need to do. no sand, algae, rocks or light leaks in my sump!! Ain't nobody got time for that.

Chamber 0
  • Hang on Refugium - still to be kitted out. chaeto, mud, matrix, pellets, mangroves, copepods let loose.
Chamber 1
  • 2x 300w Heaters
  • Filter Roller (will be installed here on arrival)
  • Refugium Pump
  • Primary and Emergency Drains
Chamber 2
  • Frag System (Frags, Shrooms, Frags, biomedia underneath, Light and wavemaker from nano tank will be added here)
  • Protein Skimmer (air inlet going into airspace)
  • Float Switch 1 - AWC High Level: clean saltwater gets pumped to this level (higher than ato as all pumps off).
  • Float Switch 2 - AWC Low Level: Pump (behind skimmer) takes water from here to drain. This can be set to any level, but will be set to around 6/7% weekly wc which equates to 98% annual water change.
  • Float Switch 3 - ATO: pumps from a large drum which is connected to RODI filter (manual tap on/off to fill with rodi - will automate this in future)
Chamber 3
  • Media Reactor - Carbon
  • Primary Pump - 3x turnover
  • Secondary Pump - 1x turnover via UV Steriliser (the max turnover of this pump is 3/4 turnover so could use for algae control when required)
  • 5 Dosing Lines
  • Clean Saltwater Inlet
  • Titanium Grounding Probe
  • Temperature Sensor
Above is motion sensored cabinet lighting, Secondary Pump Controller and Temperature Controller. Below is a charging cable for controllers

Tried to KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid. 125 gallon DT - dual sumps each with own return and overflow. Water bridge joining them Left sump is a standard sump with overflow coming down, flowing into filter sock and GAC, then into "refugium" section which we will be adding Chaeto and a light to then through a dual layer poly filter before going back to the return. The return section is also where the doser for Essentials PRO and our ATO come in at. Right sump is a 29 long that has a 2.5 gallon inside of it. Overflow comes down into the 2.5 gallon which has an egg crate top keeping a dual layer poly filter in place, then into "refugium" where we added a DIY ATS that gets harvested twice a week, then to the return pump which has an added layer of the dual layer poly filter. Poly filters get changed once a week, filter sock gets changed every other day. Tank is heavily stocked with fish and working on building up our corals. Prior to January 2021 we were running the system with just one sump which had the ATS in the refugium section. Chaeto is on the backburner until we determine if it is actually needed or if the ATS is keeping up. Current testing also attached to show that simple works. Tank has been up and running with our KISS sump set-up for nearly 2 years.

New build (upgraded from 75 to 210)
(2) 40 gal breeders.
drains into 1st 40, through (3) 4" filter socks then skimmer/heater section then return section.
return plumbing is tee'd off for flow into 2nd 40. 2 sections in it. 1st section has 20lbs sand and rock rubble. 2nd section has more little rock for future coral to be glued onto and other items in that section. micro algae in the 1st section eventually.
still a work in progress....

Don’t overthink it! I keep my sump super simple with a filter floss roller, heater, and tons of biological filtration/media and I add ClearFX Reef edition when needed.

Oh man @ReeferBlaine your a man after my own heart. On fire right now man!
Here's my 2 sumps currently.
2x65 gallon heavy duty storage totes. Eventually will be converted to aquariums to house my 300lbs ocean rock, fishes and mom colonies.
Sump #1 getting ready for blast off any moment with custom made 2'x1' side rail scrubbing overflow water. Full of gulf live rock with old school black box rockin it.
Sump #2 housing fishes and 100lbs of Walt smith and custom made 1'x1x8" ats hanging on far end just doing work:)
Sump #1 should have sea plants in it very soon:)
