Hello, this is a really old thread, but does the cyphastrea not fight with other corals close to it? I purchased a frag and wanted to place it on my main rock work, but it sounds like it could be very aggressive? The meteor shower cyphrastrea (right side) doing its best to take over the tank:

That is fantastic! I have a little frag the same color pattern. Does it sting/fight other corals? I love cyphastrea but I'm afraid of it fighting off my other corals. I have a small tank. Thanks in advanceJust let it spread wherever it wants, started as a frag a few years go.

I have a small meteor shower in the tank already but its not really impressive yet. Just starting to encrust the rock around the plug. I don’t have a photo handy.
Joking aside - to answer your actual question, cyphastrea are aggressive, but not in the same way as some others you hear horror stories about. They don’t have sweeper tentacles that can sting coral from a distance, rather they just grow right over anything in their way by means of digesting it. So they are relatively safe as long as you don’t mind getting your hands wet with a dental pick or screw driver to beat it back from time to time. That is fantastic! Close! I’m impressed! But the middle one is branded as “south beach” by Top Shelf Aquatics.Bizzaro, Monet's Madness, and Bling Bling?
So it's similar to the Monet but I think South Beach is missing some of the pinks and oranges that Monet's has. Still an awesome Cyphastrea!Close! I’m impressed! But the middle one is branded as “south beach” by Top Shelf Aquatics.
My Cyphastrea haven't killed anything. My Lepto and Cyphastrea almost touched and the Lepto killed the edge of the Cyphastrea where they came into contact. That is fantastic! Thanks, I appreciate the response. I really want this coral in my reef. It'll probably meet up next to a euphyllia garden. Should be an interesting battle! My Cyphastrea haven't killed anything. That makes so much sense. I definitely see what you're saying. I feel a little more encouraged to keep Cyphastrea, knowing a bit more. I'd say you nailed it. How long did it take to grow to that size?I tried to be artistic![]()
