Hello All,
I have a reef tank, that is hooked up to a nearby frag tank.
I am noticing, that when i turn the pumps off to do a routine water change for the frag tank i am having a syphon issue.
The frag tank is overflowing faster, then being sent to the main tank. My assumption here is there is an issue with the syphon from my frag tank.
There is no overflow issue at all when the tanks are running, but the moment I shut down a pump there is a syphon issue.
I feel like i need to stick an airline hose into the drain, but look for your guys thoughts here.

I too have had this happen with my 72 gallons canister filter when the pumps turn off it creates a suction best thing to do is tack the intake out of the water before you turn it off.

hey can you explain a bit more, how would I take the intake out? It’s plumbed on. Also the first tank is higher than the sump it is going back into.

Having someone stop by, here is what he said. Welcome peoples thoughts as well!

If the drain vent is clear then check the drain pipe going into the actual filter- if you keep the sump water high the pipe entering the filter might need to be cut shorter. (If it’s submerged it takes water pressure to overcome the air pocket inside- which could cause tank to overflow)
