I think ATB is coming out with an air stone-driven skimmer, too. Meah.. I'm not really a fan of air stones in skimmers.. They require maintenance and get clogged easily, IMO. My view might be biased, though because I used an air stone-driven skimmer when I first got into the hobby. Once I got a "standard" needle wheel skimmer, I didn't think about going back to air stones...

Thanks for the info. I just read an old article on the 1000 (Move Over 2500, Sicce PSK 600 and PSK 1000 are the New Skimmer Pumps). It sounds good, but do I want to drop $100 on another Sicce and will the new 1000 start better than the 2500? Argh....

I have personal experience with the Sicce 2500 and the 1000 *(actually the Tunze Hydrofoamer, but it's essentially the exact same pump). The 2500 is notorious for restart issues. The new Sicce pumps, like the 600 and 1000 have fixed this issue. I had zero problems with the Sicce 1000 restarting, and thought it was a better pump in every possible way. IME, it was a quieter pump as well.

If you like the skimmer body you have, the Sicce 1000 should be a good replacement pump. A Tunze Hydrofoamer is another option.

I think the skimmer body is fine, it's the pumps I hate. Maybe the 1000 is worth giving sicce a second chance.

OK, there's no way I'm reading through 87 pages @-@ so it looks like I'll just have to ask.

I'm looking at running a tank (starting FOWLR, adding corals later) around 90g. I need suggestions for a skimmer that is efficient (electric bills may be an issue here), quiet (very important to me - humming drives me nuts), reliable, and somewhere in the range of $250 or less. I could go up to $300 but would much prefer not to. I realize that a skimmer meeting all those criteria might not exist, but I would like to get as close as I can. :) Thank you for your time!

Oh, and I think I need one that runs without a sump, as it may be a long while before I can get one of those.

Tunze's Comline skimmers (or a Reefpack 505) would be a perfect fit.

I'min the process of designing a new build. I have only the stand in the staining phase right now. The tank will be a mixed reef at 60"x30"x22" (about 180g give or take 10g or so with rock displacement and sump). I will be going with a custom bio-sump from My Reef Creations. Trying to figure out the best skimmer for this build. I currently have a bubble mag Nac6 on my 75, it's not bad but I have had to replace the pump already within the 10 months of it being on. I would like to find a quality skimmer that is extremely energy efficient for under$800. I've been looking at the Tunze 9011 + the 9410 but I've read that though they work great, craftsmanship is sub-par. Any suggestions?

Are you familiar with the AquaticLife mini skimmer 115? I got it for my 29 gal fowlr as I have limited space in the back sump area.
There is so little information on proper set up and operation. I can't get it to skim more dry. The collection cup fills with foamy water VERY quickly no matter how high up or down I seem to place the skimmer. It I raise it to high it stops skimming completely. The adjustment knob doesn't seem to do anything at all.
It is suppose to regulate the amount of air in the column, but again doesn't seem to change anything.

Did you just get it? There's usually a break in period on skimmers where lots of wet skimmate or micro bubbles are common for a while
