I just picked up a 100g tank second hand for a price I couldn't refuse. The tank is in great shape but after cleaning it up a bit I noticed a small clamshell shaped chip on the bottom glass of the tank on in the inside just above the seam. There is a small hairline crack going through it. Is it still safe for me to use it or can I fix it? Or am I going to have to scrap it? The glass thickness is about 3/8" and the chip is about 1/2" wide.

The location on hte inside would worry me. You can fill it with water and let it sit a few weeks to see if anyhting happens. I would be more comfortable reinforcing that joint with glass rod or maybe a piece of 1/4 plate glass over the chip area.

I haven't put up the tank on its stand yet but do plan to putting a some padding under it on the stand. I saw a video about putting an acrylic plate over cracks so maybe i can do the same like you said over the chip. Luckily it's not too big so maybe I get away with a small piece siliconed over it
