smallest possible tank

Ok I think I'm going to try a vase reef!! It mixes the challenge with my love for minimal equipment and it has a wow factor. I like it! Thanks for all the help! I will start a build tread within a couple weeks!

A test.

thats actually not impossible to convert into a reefbowl that affects salinity and evap

the trick is the inner diameter fitting lid, Martiza has one, all the bowls that have long topoff periods have them which allows you to attain a no or very low salt creep system having used a bubbler for the motion. any plastic clear cup, planting dish, anything that can be easily cut to scale and is slightly bigger than the inner diameter of that opening will press against it and holds its place which stops evaporation 75% at least compared to typical tanks. a tiny vent pinhole is put into the top of the lid for positive pressure air vent.

thats what makes the uber small tanks stable, its the salinity control. without it they are 2x or 3x daily topoffs.

you can easily cut a length of airline tubing right down the middle, press it onto the lid surface around its edge and have a seal line that runs inside the neck of that vase as well.

The fluted neck design vases have the classic power of a slowly rising inner diameter surface so a lid literally rests on the curve effortless. that one will need slight but easy modification for the same effect

it will either need to grip and press out on the inner surface, or and possibly easier, the lid fits cleanly around that inner diameter area but what keeps it from falling in the tank are three small bump items glued on the -outside- of the cup that rests on the lip of that container. i know you didnt ask for all that but when i see a strange tank i think evaporation dynamics

...

I did 5% water changes the first couple of days, was planning to have that be a daily routine, using an airline to also syphon off bottom of the bowl waste. But have since left it unattended. I haven't noticed any evaporation, really.
