Something is eating/attacking my sand sifting starfish ?

Mine is doing this now. I've had it for about 4 months or so and everything seems to be going great but twice now it had gotten stuck to my nero 5. The first time was no problem but the second time it was upside down and twisted around. Chopped off bits of 2 of its legs.


I wonder if they "smell" the water concentrating there with the food "smells" going there too. Really bizarre

Sandsifting Starfish have no real purpose in a reeftank. They dont clean the sand, but eat the microfauna that actually cleans the tank. Also they hardly sift, stir, move the sand.

I disagree, my 5inch star fish turns over my sand quite regularly, unsure what it eats but Definitely my biggest sand turnover.
