Agree 100%. You are overfeeding like a madman lol. SPS's like much cleaner, well stabilized water params with .02ish trates(everything needs some food in the water column, don't starve them like they do on zeovit). Just remember, SPS = Stability Promotes Success.

Sorry Toylee, you are very knowledgeable and well respected in the community but I would not recommend this if you don't know what you are doing. Never needed to dose vodka but have heard horror stories about someone trying it to fix a situation and not knowing what they were getting into and had die offs due to params being wacked out from doing stuff they weren't supposed to. Go slow and watch it grow, do water changes with a good salt and run fresh activated carbon regularly. Can you get a pic? It would help to see what they look like and where they are placed in the tank/how big they are and what species they are.
While you are correct in a sense, not much can wrong with vodka besides cyano.... If you follow sunnyx and his procedure it's fool proof and easy honestly.... A overdose of mb7 isn't gonna hurt anything... A overdose of vodka will cause cyano or burnt tips on acros if your alk is over 10 or so.... Not to sure why everyone is scared of it honestly... It's simple it's cheap and really almost fool proof.."unless you have a couple swigs of that vodka before you dose it haha"

I've also been thinking about getting a better protein skimmer. Currently have a Nac7. What are the thoughts on this?

No clue to be honest, never ran a skimmer before.

"unless you have a couple swigs of that vodka before you dose it haha"

I think that's where most of the problems occur ;)

Wait you mean you aren't supposed to drink heavily before working on a fish tank? Dang well I think I just found my problem LOL. Just kidding. Today I tested my nitrates and they are finally showing signs of life. I have cut down to 1 cube a day (Hope my 10 fish don't starve), two big water changes, followed by a 10 gallon water change and two 5 gallon water changes. I've also start running a very small amount of bio pellets in BR-70 reactor and cheato in the sump. I'm going to do 5 gallon a day water changes through the rest of the week until Sunday and then go to weekly water changes. I've also thought about instead of doing 10 gallon water changes weekly maybe doing two 5 gallon water changes 1 on Wednesday and 1 on Sunday. I've been considering ordering a vertex alpha 170 skimmer also, but keep going back and fourth on this thought.

^lol! Have you given any thought about running activated carbon at all? That stuff is amazing, keeps the water crystal clear, nice and pristine, gets out a lot of toxins and other nasties you can't see. Still need a pic ;)

Here are pictures of the skimmer. Note the skimmate is a little light due to when I turned it back on some water overflowed in it from water change. Will clean it tonight and get a better pictures. Also I'm running the BRS GFO HC and BRS ROX Carbon in a nextreef reactor changed every month on the 15th.
